There has been a small fanatical group in archery for several decades here in the U. S. that compete in a competition known as " flight archery." There are several "classes" pertaining to bow type but the object is simple. The winner is the one with the farthest arrow, no target is involved.
There is a documented distance of an arrow being shot 972 yds. in 1798 by the Sultan of the Ottoman empire. It was witnessed and measured by visiting English dignitaries . On Oct. 24, 1971 at Ivanpah Dry Lake during the official N.A.A. Flight Championships Harry Drake launched an arrow 2,028 yds. from a hand built bow drawn with both feet  while sitting.

The urge to see how far an arrow can be propelled has been around for quite some time.

Hey all of you Excal guys,
I shot my Ibex at 100 metres at a "rag" Target I made myself found the rangfe and the Target using the Varizone scope it was accurate right at the bottom quarter of the lense below the 50 yard marker. After a couple of shots over and below, I hit the target every time, even with a cross wind of about strength 3 to 4...and it still hit with a mighty thwack rocking the bag (about 20 Kg)....but it took time to travel there, enough for me to lower the bow and watch the arrow hit the bag with my naked eye. The elevateion of the bow was about 10 degrees or even less.....so I's hate to think where it would go at 45 degrees....Lost arrow for sure I reckon!

hankenhunter, the Equinox (I guess you got an Equinox) has the same power of an Exomax :) . I don´t know what type of string you have, but if you are going to do the test of 45 degrees, please let us know the distance the arrow traveled 8) .

Of course there are a few factors we have to keep in mind if someone is going to do this test. The kind of string, crossbow model, brace height and arrow weight are elements that must be taken in consideration :)

You left out an important factor, exact degree of angle.
I'd opt for 52 degrees vs 45.

That way, one might hit the stratosphere and catch a tail wind.

hint: plumbers [aka torpedo] levels have a 45 degree bubble.

I'm thinking I should use a field tape measure instead of the range finder.
Hanken, said w/ all the humor I can muster, the only thing dumber than plinking one off at a 45 degree angle is actually measuring it w/ tape like a shot put.

Take big boy strides and count them, you will be so close to 100 yds per 100 it will amaze you!

Maybe we can make something of this? How's about a pool for some charity at $5 a guess?

I'll start it off w/ 600 yds.

Edited, masboy, nah on the 300 yds, they'll do that on a "skip".

Interesting thread......

While moose hunting this year our camp was in a sand pit used by the logging companies. And boys being boys, a friendly competion started between a Exocet and a Bowtech Destroyer 350. If I recall right, the excal found a post 100 yards out in 3 shots. Was quite interesting to watch those arrows fly through the air.

I know I have it on video. Gonna have to watch it again.....
If the thrill of the hunt is lost, then I have lost.

Fun thread indeed, it would be neat to shoot it after dark with a lighted nock. Should hopefully make the recovery a bit easier, and an awesome video.

For measuring the distance have you thought about using a handheld GPS? Mark where you fire the bow from and then when you find the arrow mark your second point and figure the distance between the two. This should let you measure the range within about 10 meters or so of the actual distance that your arrow traveled.

I smoked a doe last year with my exomax. 25 yard shot. Could not find my arrow. Recovered the deer and was dragging her out, by this time it was dark. I could see a red dot glowing in the distance. I walked over to find my Muzzy tipped firenock nocked bolt sticking up out of the ground. I blazed a tree next to it and went home. The arrow must have skipped on the ground as the blazed tree was over 150 yards from my elevated stand. Don't know how far an arrow can fly, but I do know one can go 125 yards after a pass through, verified by laser.

Holy crap, are you joking??
Through a deer and skipped ending up 125 yards from the Deer? If you aren't kidding then that is amazing!!![/quote]
Not joking in the least and I would have never believed it either. That is why I blazed the tree so I could check it later. It was dark and I knew it seemed a long way off, so I marked the tree. I ranged several times as I too could not believe what the rangefinder was showing. Went as far as stepping it off when I came out for lunch. She had been standing in a rocky area when I shot but I could not find any marks on the rocks. Chalked it up to some of those weird things that happen.

Now that's funny! This thread reminds me of a movie I saw once. Gotta try to find that link......
