It was cold 18 degrees and no wind this morning and crunchy as all get out moving to the stand in the leaves,,,got there finally after moving as slow as all get out trying to not make any noise and made it harnessed and hunting at 7:15am as sunrise was 7:33am and at 7:40 had six come in and took a med. doe with muzzleloader busting them up and all others running in every direction. Will go back in the morning and see about bucks as there has to be some bucks with that many does coming in from the only standing corn field for miles around,,farmer has still about 40 acres to cut and I bet the corn field is full of deer as other nite my buddy saw a monster 10 running with a big 6 pointer that went about 175 field dressed as he took the six as it was the only shot he had and the ten was back in the corn hiding after the shot he told me. Had 5 does last nite when the wife got home at 2am from work cross over into my 40 acres and they were all biggies so things are looking up in my area finally. Been a slow season but now have 2 does in the freezer and would like to take one more, but going back to hunting the bucks for now as I am hunting with a muzzleloader during the gun season which will end next sunday nite, then back to cross bow for 5 days before muzzleloading season kicks in. We can hunt with any gun type weapon during our gun season in Indiana, and I prefer muzzleloaders and the one shot. :) They are predicting cloudy all day tomorrow, with it 21 at 6am and a 5-10 SW wind. Cold again but dressed for it and enjoying the cold hunting as it definitely has the deer moving and feeding hard. We are beginning to run out of acorns so the standing corn is the ticket for now.I am hunting public land about a mile so deer carting with a 2 wheel cart took about a hour for me to hall it out over a tall ridge smack dab in the middle of that mile. Quite a workout but lovin every minute of it. :D By the way, I use a 250 grain ShockWave bullet loaded behind Blackhorn 209 high performance powder that leaves no residue in the barrel with each shot and you never have to spit patch every 3-4 shots that loads perfectly each time and is all but smokeless. 80 or 90 grains of powder is all you need to shoot 125-135 yds. the shot today was in brush at about 80 yds.

Finally got to see some deer this evening. We watched 5 does & a 6 point buck in a harvested soybean field to end the day (and youth season). Never even picked up the muzzleloader as they stayed too far out to try a shot, but at least we got to watch them for 20 minutes or so. Closest one got was a doe I ranged at 162 yards. Told my son if it was the last day of deer season for the year and we were starving I might let him try the shot, but there's still gun season and muzzleloader season plus over two months of archery season left. No need to rush things.

It was colder this evening! Time to dig out my serious winter clothes I think.

Yeah but you're in the UP, its supposed to be cold
Yes it is, but the few past winters seam too be quite mild for temps. I remember having about one month or more of below zero temps deep in winter years ago. I don't see that anymore other than a few days or possible week.

I lived in North Dakota for 5 winters and they always order well below zero temps and strong wind as a package deal.
