I put my crossbow on a flat surface and make sure to rest the stirrup on something flat and elevated (elevated off the table for example). Then I place a level on the rail and check if the bubble is level.
If it's level then I mount the scope and place the level on the elevation knob. I keep adjusting the scope until it is level.
You can then double check if it's straight by placing the stirrup on a confirmed flat-level surface again which is this time facing a horizontal object like a doorframe, window frame, cuboard, etc. At this point, the crosshair lines should follow exactly the horizontal door frame for example.
