Great project. Way beyond my capabilities.

I'm interested in how it will sound.

A bit more headway. I machined the D2 tool steel rails the other day with a 45 degree cutter.

Also got the Acudraw up and running. For those familiar with the Acudraw I removed the tension spring on the left side allowing me to cut 1/4 inch off the main shaft. Currently the width of my setup is 2.25 inches, which suits me much better than the 4 inch width of a stock Acudraw with the covers installed. I am planning on leaving the mechanism exposed. I still have to send it off for anodizing, grey I think.

Looks very interesting, keep the updates coming, it will be interesting to see what gains and benefits there are beside the noise when you get it complete. I don't see those screws as being a problem, once countersink and hardened and polished I would think it would have less serving wear???? Very Cool!

Looks awesome! X2 on less ware on the rail. I had electropolishing done on the top and upper sides before the type three hard anodizing. It's like a glass finish with zero serving ware from the rail. Keep the updates coming. :D

I am expecting less serving wear, it does not get much more slick that a hardened chunk of polished steel. As for performance increases, I don't really see any great advantage in that regard. My motivation for the project is really rooted in materials with a couple of design features that I could not easily have incorporated into a stock Excal. One being the forward mounted trigger. They now have the Bulldog, but that was not out when I started this project.

I made a couple of changes from my original desgn. The most interesting of which was the modification of the riser that to reduce down pressure on the rail. I had planned on using the factory height for the rail, but noticed when I got it all together that string was deflecting significantly. I decided to reduce down pressure on the rail and removed 84 thousandths of height from the factory setup. This left me with about 1/8 inch of deflection. Below is a picture of the modified riser. You can see where I machined off height at the point of contact with the rail.

It is pretty much done from my end. I still have to function test, but I loaned my bag target out. Next step is anodizing.

WOW! Absolutely awesome! I can't wait to see it with the anodizing. Are you planning on adding a butt plate?

I really like the very tasteful wood accent pieces that you chose. Since joining this forum many years ago I can't ever remember seeing such a unique crossbow build as yours.
