Intresting result comfybear - i would have expected a bigger improvement in speed - i'll bet you will see it improve after the break in period.
Bill-T, My thoughts are that I've tried alot of different stuff to improve on an already great product. -It's difficult to get a noticeable gain whe you are starting with a such a well thought out design, however when i get a chance to muck around with building an improved string - i'll shoot it on a phoenix with the string stop system so i figure I'm all ready starting at a really forgiving settup. If I blow up the limbs after all the modifications and experiments I've done I will return them to you with a note on how i did it and the go over to the bow shop and buy a new set. Bill I make some wild posts on this site about some of the stuff I tried but I think its great that you replied to this post - I DO NOT EXPECT YOU TO REPAIR OR REPLACE ANYTHING ON MY BOW AFTER I'VE MUCKED AROUND WITH IT - NOR SHOULD ANYONE ELSE. Just call me your guelph R&D department.

I thought that would be the case also, but like you say, I feel that the speed should increase a bit when the string is fully "broken in". After all I was comparing a new string, that was still creeping, with one that had been shot hundreds of times and fully stretched.grandtrout wrote:Intresting result comfybear - i would have expected a bigger improvement in speed - i'll bet you will see it improve after the break in period.
Having said that, I still don't expect too much speed difference between my string (Dyneema) and the store bought FFF (Spectra). Like I posted earlier, both are made from 100% HMPE material, and both have some creep. According to Brownell, due to how TS Plus is manufactured, it is somewhat more stable, and therefore that should make it a bit faster.
However, in deciding to make my own strings, it wasn't speed that I was after, but rather consistency, stability and durability. So far, from my early results, I feel that I've managed to obtain my objective.

Just an update...
After making a few strings, I compared them side by side with a new FFF "black and grey" string, I have in my shooting box.
I was surprised at the difference in looks. The FFF string feels more pliable and waxy to the touch, and isn't as colourfast as the TS Plus, the black strands on the FFF string tend to smudge.
When comparing the diameters, even though I used one extra strand, 24 instead of 23, but since the TS Plus material is .014, instead 0.15 for the FFF, I expected it to be .009" thinner, yet while looking at it with the naked eye, it looked much thinner. Just to make sure, I used my electronic digital calipers, and sure enough the difference was approx. .009".
The twists on the loops came out tighter and more compact. The strands along the length of the string are also tighter, and don't separate even when the string is off the bow.
However, the biggest surprise is the weight, the TS Plus string weighs 96 grains, compared to 128 grains for the FFF string.
I'm looking to put this string through it's paces. So far it performs as good as it looks.
