After trying both aluminum and carbon in my Phoenix, I noticed that the aluminum arrow was extremely slow and dropped very quickly.
I look for accuracy and speed with as little drop as possible. Also, I don't believe that carbon arrows can bend and stay bent. You can bend an aluminum arrow just by removing it from the quiver but not so much for a carbon.
I know that there are a lot of folks out there that like aluminum but this is just my opinion.

One thing i have learned here in the land of Rocks. Don't matter which i use carbon or alum. the odds are against me to have my arrow not trashed after the shot hunting deer here. I have found my alum. to be the easiest to make logs out of. I can get up to 1500 gr est. heck of FOC fer sure!

I like aluminum best. Easy to work with. I add 3 inserts to the front by cutting the lips off and cutting the insert in back in half.
22 % FOC. with 125 broadhead in a 2213.

I use aluminum for hunting, carbon for 3 D shoots. By the way it's a myth that carbon arrows don't bend.
In the picture below a lazer II shot out of a vortex is clearly seen to be bent. Boo has called it the "warping" of arrows"

I wish Easton would produce a 2219 XX78 digital aluminum shaft since I make my own arrows. However, the 2216 version works very well and gives me a 470 grain arrow which according to the Italian guys formula is practically perfect for the phoenix I use. My arrow is tipped with a 150 gr.
boltcutter for excellent FOC as well. By the way their formula is 2.7 x draw weight. For the phoenix
that would be 2.7 x 175 =472.5. Matthias said they derived this formula empirically so that the energy
is tranferred to the arrow and not into the bow!

it seems that most like the carbon type arrow and I as well shot them for a couple seasons but have had some break and have seen pics of other carbons that had splintered in the animal so with that being a possibility I switched back to aluminum 2216's for health reasons..... mine not the deers. I don't want to eat meat with carbon splinters in it that can't be good. and besides the aluminum arrows are cheaper, I am not saying aluminum won't break or bend cause they will but they won't leave splinters in the meat so I feel for me and my family they are the better way to go
