I still look in on the forum from time to time.

3D action, with all types of archery equipment, in this area has dropped off very sharply, as have our work party numbers at the club. This makes having enthusism for our 3D program very difficult. Other clubs in this immediate area are facing the same situation.

This is unfortunate because we have a great facility but you can't make the people come out.

This is not a comment on the forum members, a good many of whom made lengthy trips to come shoot here, which was great; but if the locals in the area don't come out any more, it pretty much brings thing to a stop. Time will tell if this is merely cyclic and the numbers will return; the issue is, if our local people do not support the local clubs, the activity (3D) will not be available when they decide to participate again.

At this point I really don't think I have a lot to offer the forum. My areas of interest were based mainly on target shooting, technical stuff and crossbow history. There are now a number of people here that cover those issues very well.

I have noticed a difference in the forum for a while now; or perhaps it is just me. It seems to me, at least, there are more "sharp" exchanges than before (not counting anti-crossbow types, as in the "great crossbow wars" of the past); this is not the type of thing I enjoy. In September 2004, my activity here had been dropping off and at that point I made a decision to pretty much fade away.

I have shot trap since 1970 and have to say I am better at that than I will ever be at 3D and I am "alive and well" as trapchairman of the CSC. I am quite active in one shotgun forum, under a different "handle". I'm out every Suday afternoon "smoking clays" on the trap range.

Same to you :D

I figured out, I bought my one trap gun and 870TB, new in 1976; that would make me......mature :?

The old 870TB has had a minimum of 75,000 shells throught it (have sort of lost count, it may be more), though I have some others, I still shoot this one regularily :D

Regards

10Ring,

It appears only the die hards make any local shoots around here. Mayeb 3D has seen it;s hay day.

Giood to hear from you again.

Best wishes on the trap field. I still have my 870 TB but have not shot in years and years.

Happy New Year to you and yours....

The shooting sports can be cyclic in activity.

However, 3D here dropped from 75 to 100 for a weekend shoot in 2002, to 20 to 30 in 2004.

I have seen skeet and trap rise and fall and rise again over time but that is quite a swing.

Hang onto that 870TB. There are now many more expensive and high tech trap guns, many very nice but my 870TB fits me well and I am very used to it, it is my go to gun when I want to kick butt on trap. I even surprise some people when I shoot doubles with one  but I have had a few years practice with pumps

Glenn : Pretty hard to beat those 870's for reliability ! I went full circle .... many O/U's then just switched back to 870's again this year .... picked up a beauty new 870 SP Magnum factory camo for ducks / geese / deer , and a used but " like new " 20 gauge 870 wood stock with and extra synthetic stock from Mikey V. it fits me and I shoot it well on upland .

I've always been an 870 fan ....

Got five, myself, all were bought new, in order from oldest to newest;

1. 870TB Trap, 1976; my main trap gun

2. 870SA Skeet, 1980; my pump skeet gun (they quit making SA's in 1982)

3. 870 20g, 1989 Lightweight; my favourite upland gun

4. 870TC Trap, 1994; my "back-up" trap gun

5. 870 Wingmaster LC 12g, 1996; I use this when I shoot Sporting clays with a pump

You might say I like them too

I disagreed with you Grey Owl and I do not want you gone.
I would like to see you say. The reason I wasa bit of a dink was that you were being hypocritical in what you said. Wheneversomeone is being hypocritical I fire back with both barrels.
Either way if you choose to leave just walk away.
If you choose to stay me and the others would be glad to keep you.

Gray Owl , It's a sad day when you let someone run you off. I have butt heads with a few guys in here myself as you know but that's life. There are many guys in here who respect you for who you are and you shouldn't ware your feeling on your sleve. You have good comemts and it would be ashame to see you leave.

I'm a relative new comer to this forum, but I've come to value the opinions of many of the members and appreciate the fact they are willing to share their experiences and expertise. Grey Owl, I count you among those people, and I would be truly sorry to see you leave the forum. Even thought I didn't totally agree with all the points you raised or the manner in which you raised them, I fully support your right to voice the opinion you did re. Jack.
One of the great things about free speech is that people should be allowed to voice their thoughts without fear of ridicule or personal attacks. Anyone who's ever witnessed a political debate or two children arguing (two very similar examples) realizes how ridiculous people look when they stoop to name calling and unwarranted insults. If people have opposing views about an issue, it should be the basis of a constructive discussion where eveyone benefits. If an opinion or belief doesn't stand up to scrutiny, then maybe it's not valid and should be reconsidered or refined.
Hoss, no insult to you or to those who supported your efforts. We've swapped pm's before and I have no doubt whatsoever that you're sincere and I commend you for doing what you feel is appropriate.
This is still a great forum, but with each personal attack it becomes less so. We have to realize and accept that with human interaction, even electronic, comes human conflict. It's how we deal with that conflict that defines who we are. Let's stick to swapping experiences and advice before this forum dies, and the antis become the only true winners.
Sorry for the diatribe, but this forum has helped me immensely and I hate to see it slipping away.

Hmm... I have been away fishing for a couple of days, so have not read what led up to this. Grey Owl, your news and views from saskatchewan would be missed.
