I pulled boneheaded move...

Post by ninepointer »

On Sunday night a big doe walked by at 30 yards (my "self-imposed limit", but 10 yards beyond the trail I was watching; I guess she didn't read the play book). I though that for sure I would have deer #2 in the freezer! Unfortunately I breathed on my Varizone and fogged it up!!! When I finally cleared the scope she was moving on. I stopped her with a mouth bleat and she stood broadside at 40 yards for what seemed like forever. After some internal debate I took the shot (after all I was hitting bullseyes at 40 yards at the range), but I heard the "tick, tick" of the bolt deflecting off something along the way. Thankfully I missed cleanly and I found the bolt to verify there was no blood on it. THIRTY YARDS, THAT'S IT! NO FARTHER!!! WHAT A BONEHEAD :x !

A lesson learned and no deer injured, lady luck was smiling on you both. Sometimes we all need to learn from our own mistakes, not those of others. Good luck the rest of the season.

It's good of you to remind us all that there is a self imposed responsibility that all sportsman must follow. Thanks!!!

Lots of times you do not even notice small brush and twigs when looking at a deer but notice them when the arrow or bolt hits them. If we got ever deer we shot at it sure would not be as exciting as it is if we get one after a miss or two. Thats why it is hunting and not harvesting. :)

Ditto!!! :D

Well stated tkstae "DITTO" and as jh45gun stated " do not beat your self up too bad you may have heard that tic tic tic at 20 or 30 yards too. "

I have breathed on my varizone a couple times now, talk about frusterating whe you want to take a shot and your scope is all blurry, at first I couldnt figure out what the problem was but now Im extra careful about it.
