anyone use 125 gr slick tricks?

Post by nchunter »

Does anyone here use the 125 gr slick tricks? I'm thinking of converting from aluminum bolts to carbon, and rather than add brass weights I thought I'd go for a heavier broadhead and get something for the weight. The 125 gr. has a 1/8" larger cutting diameter, versus the 100 grain. My only concern is if the larger blades reduce flight accuracy.

I use 125 grain montec G5 on Gold tips and they are just as accurate as target points. I havent done a lot of practice in the wind but that might effect things a bit but i wouldnt think significantly. I have shot 2 deer so far and one dropped right there (spinal tap) and the other ran about 50 yards before crashing.

I use the 125 Slick Tricks with Gold Tip bolts in my Exomax. The accuracy is fine, and if anything, I just wish they had a larger cutting diameter. They'll do a complete pass through on a rib shot-elk at 30 yards.

Well . . .

What is the differences on the carbon arrow with 100 VS 125 gr ??

Why should I use one or the other ? ? ?

A good question as far as I am concerned.

Thank you for your answers.

Gerald

If the broadheads are otherwise the same, the heavier one will penetrate deeper. With the Slick Trick the 125 grain is slightly larger in the cutting diameter, and that would tend to make it penetrate less. However, the penetration gain caused by the extra weight tends to off set the loss caused by the larger cut.

Bolt speed would be a bit less with the 125 grain, but I shoot an Exomax, so I don't much care about bolt speed. It shoots flat, and the bolt speed gain by using the 100 grain broadhead isn't enough to interest me.. I like the extra cut size, so that's why I want the heavier broadhead..

Dear Hi5,

Thank you for the informations; I tried both 100 and 125; I think I will stick to the 100.

I think some one is confused on cutting dia of the slicktrick 100gr vs 125gr. The cutting dia on these two broad heads are the same 1 1/8" the 85gr is only 1".... :D see http://www.slicktrick.net/

I use both the 100 and 125gr and they both use the same inserts/blades.... :D

Both 100 and 125 grain heads are available with 1" or 1 1/8" blades. I just got 4 packs of the Standard 125 gr. 1 inch.......Actually the one inch size is stronger and will give better penetration and is more accurate...bigger cut is not always better.

Scroll down to the bottom of the slick trick page and look at the order form.

He changed it this year then, I see that. The SlickTrick was only ava. in 1 1/8".... :D As for more accurate with the 1" I reckon anything is possible but shucks I can hit the same hole with 1 1/8" blades. I like the bigger cut....more blood to follow

Gary, I agree with you on the bigger cut...When I purchased them and chatted with Gary from Slick Trick...he told me what my above post states on accuracy, penetration and durability...those are his comments...pertaining to the 1 inch cut.

Like you said, when you are hitting the same hole, what does it matter! :D

Read that Deer Dave, last time I talked with Gary was Dec.04 when I ordered my last set of SlickTrick 100gr and a pack of spare blades. I also noticed he now has a neat information page on the SlickTrick and how too sharpen them if you want.

Most of my deer kills have left my slicktricks with one blade rippled or warped but still love'em.... :D
