I shot at a doe yesterday that was about 20 yards away in a sunflower field. I thought for sure I hit her but when I found the arrow there was no blood or fat or anything on it, except for some dirt, it looked clean and new. There were some sunflowers in between me and her, could a sunflower stalk deflect an arrow enough to cause a complete miss at that range? I looked for a blood trail and couldnt find one but thats not always easy to spot in a black dirt field. Anyone else ever have this happen? BTW the sunflowers werent close to me, they were just about the last 5 yards closest to her, I was out of the field shooting into it.
BTW I have taken two does so far and xbow hunting is a blast. I appreciate all the tips and knowledge you guys share with us newbies.
No blood?
sound like a clean miss Furor....you stated ( I was out of the field shooting into it. ) I hope you were not trying to shoot thru the sunflowers..Thats not the best plan..but yes deflections happen and it has happened to me..look for a clean shot, be patient it will come..welcome to the great sport of archery..get back out there and get one..

Re: No blood?
5 yards is 15 feet and 15 feet is more than enough distance to deflect an bolt/arrow... But really, shooting through sunflowers or brush with a bolt/arrowFuror wrote: BTW the sunflowers werent close to me, they were just about the last 5 yards closest to her

Sorry, but I have to say that you're much better off passing on such shots in the future and take responsible shots...
