Hunting with kids is Fun!!!

Post by BigUgly »

Took my 7 year old son out for his first deer hunting adventure. On the way to the tree stand I reminded him of all the hunting things we have discussed before. You know the typical things try to stay still, try and be as quiet as can be etc. Took his gameboy and snacks to keep him somewhat occupied. He wasa more interested in watching the woods than the game. WE had discussed earlier that if he heard anything not to look up and tell me.(he sits on the foot platform of a ladder stand with a harness on) I told him daddy will hear it and I would put my hands on his head and slowly turn his head towards where I think the deer will come out. Well around 6:30 we hear one coming through the bush right towards our apple pile, just about to put my hands on his head when I can feel the shaking through the ladder stand. Next thing I know my sons looking up at me with eyes the size of pies saying DADDY HERE COMES A DEER!!!! Well you should have heard the stomping, snorting and blowing. It was very comical to say the least. The deer went about 40 yards to another stand and apple pile and you could hear it eating apples till just about dark then walked away. Never got a shot off but could very well be the best hunt I,ve had my whole life. My son asked why the deer left. I didn't lie to him and told the truth but made it clear I was not upset at him in fact I told him it was the best hunt I've ever had. Hope you enjoy the story and remember kids are our future so take them hunting no matter how many chances you miss the reward far outways the losses.
