Have heard about it and didn't beleive it until today. I was coming home from near London Ont and beleive it or not I saw a young bull, perhaps about a 2-1/2 yr old crossing the road. I just about flipped.
The closest I have seen one before this way was near Barrie.
There was reports of one down near Sarnia . I live about 20 miles from there.
I thought it was a joke but today I am a beleiver.
Maybe the Ministry are trying something. Anyone Heard anything???
Don moose will travel many miles on their own. Many years ago there was a moose that traveled into the town of Port Hope just east of Oshawa on the shore of Lake Ontario. I believe in that instance, the moose was shot by the MNR because of the dangers.
It is usually in the fall when they do much of their travelling, looking for a mate without geting into it with a larger bull. Who knows maybe he was heart broken and found that area with plenty of feed and not much danger and stayed.
Enjoy this while you can.

The moose was spotted around Sarnia in the middle of November and then was spotted Christmas day near Lucan and filmed by an a youngster who had received the camera for Christmas. The footage was on the local news out of London. Another board, Hunt Ontario, claimed the moose was shot by the OPP and then everyone had their say about how bad the police were to shoot the moose, man were they all wrong...hope there eaten crow for all the mud slinging about the OPP.

I love moose. I even think that they are beautiful ....... in their own way ............ and that I love to watch them. But in no way is it safe for them to be near large towns or cities with major hi-ways. Can you imagine the uproar if someone hit a moose near the city on one of the hi-ways. Moose travel at night, they are black, someone will not see it, then hit it.
The best thing to do would be to dispatch it. It would be way tooo costly to sedate and them relocate it. Dispatch it and give out the meat to needy people, but they would not do that .

About 15 years ago my parents anf I saw one just south of Port Perry in the swamp while we where snowmobiling. Ministry explained that they will travel far for browse in the winter and that happened to be an extremely bad winter. They think it may have followed snowmobile trails from the Ganaraska forest.
That same moose was spotted near Seaforth/Brussels, then south towards Exeter, then Centralia in a span of a few days, and this was about 6 weeks ago. Lately they had a pic of it in the London Free Press spotted near the 402 towards Sarnia, not far from Watford area. Wouldn't want to hit that sucker with my car!
I can't really beleive that a moose would travel all the way down here to find a mate.
I think there is more to this than that.
I kinda figure moose have been let go in Hullet Marsh.(don't know if I spelt that right but I have been hunting moose since 1966 andn do know a little bit about them.
Normally a moose will live in a 5 sq, mi area. To be as the crow flies (275 miles) away from its birthplace does not not cut ice with me.
Sorry guys but just my personal opinion.
the moose in port hope was not shot ... they were going to shoot it twice once when it was in the school ground and once when it was on the 401 crossing it ... it held up traffic for a while the moose was last seen that i herd of was buy a guy looking for a gut shot deer on the 4line between port hope and newtonville........ i filled my pants that day i jumped it in its bed goosh what a noise they make taking off the moose came to with in 15 yards of my buddie....
To rwk-
I dont need a GPS to find my way around. There nice toys but if a person has to rely on them they should stay at home.
If you have read all my comments you would know that the closest point I have seen a moose was at Barrie ONT.
To be in London or Sarnia is a little far fetched.
I'll bet by GPS its closer than the distance I stated.
Want to bet your last dollar on it??????
