Down-sizing my Exomax (was Exomax for Exocet trade?)

I don't know for sure if I want to do this or not yet, but I wanted to see if there is anyone with an Exocet 200 (preferably in the US for easier shipping) that would be interested in trading it for an Exomax straight up.

The Exomax was purchased earlier this year and has had roughly 50 shots put through it. The state just put out the official rules for crossbow hunting (it's our first year) and they've stipulated a 200lb limit. If anyone has an Exocet rail sticker they want to sell me, that might help with my dilemma, too.

Like I said - I'm not sure if I'm really going to go through with it or not, but I'm trying to see if it's even an option. Thanks!

Did you look into buying an old riser or getting a set of light limbs from Excalibur? Or, I bet someone with an old straight riser off of an older model Exocet would change for your forward facing riser and then you would both have a 200 lbs bow. Keep the bow and just swap the riser.

I hadn't thought of buying lighter limbs - I like that idea... I could switch back easily if they ever change the law.

Changing the limbs wont change my powerstroke though, right? Would it be rough on the limbs?

I thought the limbs were the same across their crossbow line and it was the length of the main beam that determined the draw weight?

What is the 'riser' and what would it have to do with draw weight?

Sorry, I'm not more well versed in archery (specifically crossbow) terminology... I'll have to keep referring to things as thingies or otherwise until I learn.

One thing to consider,if you only swap risers, your bow will still say exomax. With your 200 lb. legal limit,you may still have some grief if checked by a game warden. I am sure they don't carry a scale,maybe a masterlist of xbow models with their rated drawweight? On his list,your bow will still be 225 lbs. You may be able to prove it to him with a scale, but I am sure it would be a hassle and at best a day wasted!

The riser is the the machined piece of aluminium that your limbs fit onto.

The newer risers are machined so that your limbs slope forward causing more tension when you cock the bow, therefor giving more speed.

It seems Excalibur made some changes when they switched to the new riser. There is a slight difference in the width of the rail designed for the new riser, and the old/new risers will not interchange (without modifications). It would be much easier to simply trade bows!

what you really need is just a shorter rail...you could swap rails with someone, but sometimes it's easier to just swap bows...of course you could always just buy another bow

...just kidding...if you swap risers with someone who has a straight riser, you will end up with an exomag - 200# (approx.) bow...

Excalibur sold "Light" limbs at one time that would decrease the speed of your bolts. I don't know if they still do. Maybe B.J. knows or would know where to get some?

Thank you to everyone that responded with advice and offers. I've learned a lot today!

I exchanged emails with The Dude, and the lighter limbs are not an option for the Exomax. I think I'm going to hold on to my Max and see if I can scrap together enough cash for a second bow without the wife noticing. My hunting buddy lives in NH, and I just double-checked and see that they don't have an upper weight-limit there. As with most other things (especially taxes!), they're a step ahead of Maine.

i'd like to trade my 200 for a max but im just worried the max would be overkill for what I need to do with it. Plus its harder on strings and so forth
