More freezer meat, a double (I couldn't resist)

Post by DuckHunt »

The conditions in Virginia were much better today than the downpours we had on Saturday. The wind was also more cooperative.

Just like I drew it up a big doe and two yearlings came down one of the trails from behind my stand and crossed the shooting lane to my left just after 7am. She stopped slightly quartering away 20 yards out. In the quiet woods, this crossbow seemed loud! She bolted up into a thicket about 50 yards away. I thought I heard her go down almost immediately. I reloaded and figured I would wait a while and continue hunting.

About 7:45am the two yearlings came back out. I had the crosshairs on the smaller of the two at 20 yards but decided to pass. Then they both proceeded to come down the trail directly behind my stand. The base of my stand is 22' up. As they got closer, the larger of the two began to look mighty tasty. :) I coudn't resist and arrowed it at about 10 steps. It ran about 30 yards past my stand and stopped. The other stopped about 20 steps away. I watched the one I hit fall over after about 30 seconds.

The Spitfire 100's performed great out of my Exomax. The big doe actually went down in sight of my stand but I didn't notice. It only went 40 yards.

Here are a few pics.

I'm tagged out for the day. Time to take one of my kids out for an afternoon hunt. I'll have a camcorder along. The afternoon may be more fun than this morning. Nah. :D

congratulations. What a great day you had. I can smell the steaks cooking from here and the freezer will be stocked for winter.
