My first Excalibur deer

Post by vapredhunter »

Today my brother and I had second day of the season double. We both killed 5 pointers about 5 miles apart. Justin was in his tree stand hunting a mock scrape, he shot him in the neck angling in to the heart and lungs at about about five yards. His buck walked in stuck his nose in the scrape almost under the stand. I was ground hunting a little funnel of hardwoods between two fields, my shot was eye to eye 13 yards and that’s bowhunting I don’t care how big the deer. A doe and two button bucks passed by less then ten yards from me they made me a little nervous I thought they were going to wind me but after passing, but lucky for me they turned a little and that kept the wind in my favor. Just as they went out of sight I looked back and saw some movement were they came from and realized there was a little buck behind them. I was in my ghillie suit scrunched down beside a tree between two fallen logs. The buck walked straight towards me then stopped about 10 yards away he looked at me for a second or two then I was sure he had me but he then turned broadside and started eating again. He then walked behind a tree just long enough for me to get my bow up and shoot. There not very big but they’ll do for 2006 starter deer and they will eat good, now I can wait for the big boy.
