I think it's too early; I'd wait until November 1st. If you want to try a scent now maybe try some regular doe urine, a food attractant, smoke stick or a curiosity scent.

from what ive seen in Va the little bucks are still somewhat in groups. Had 3 5-6pt's run across a field ths morning. I lightly rattled also since its alot of bucks in the area I hunt and had a REALLY nice shooter 8 walk out, but he was at 100yards. Ill pay him a visit with the smokepole in Nov if he doesnt get closer. Im seeing that just tickling the tines on horns draw them out to see whats up. But its all kinds of scrapes and rubs down here. Doe arent in heat yet so I wouldnt use the scent. But bucks are marking their grounds everywhere

The bucks around here are still nocturnal and are breaking up a little from the batchelor groups.....to soon for doe heat sent for me..try like its been said food scent or nothing at all...a fawn in distress works well for the big bucks this time of year..for instance...my Bro knocked down a fawn a few days ago..Hit her in the spine,She lets off with a series of bleats of distress and here comes a 7 point buck to defend her. well my Bro ended up with a double that morning..what luck...

good luck..

I watched a little spike chase a small doe last week. Every time she stopped he would have his nose to her rear and she would run a little more. He was grunting the whole time and stomping as he trotted behind her. It was great to watch. I think it will still be a while till the big boys start acting that way though. Using regular doe pee would probably be best. It could bring in a curious buck looking to check out a new doe in the area. The time will come for tinks and mock scapes soon. The weird thing for me is that I havn't even seen any scrapes or rubs yet.

i dont think so, we are finding rubs and scrapes on our club. usually when we find rubs and scrapes like we have been doing its just a matter of time. with the cool weather that we have been having i sure hope it keeps the buck in the mood. and with the gun season opening next weekend i am ready for it.

also, sometimes no scent at all is the best scent;) When a buck smells something, he's looking. Its very easy for him to see you or find out you are there. Every big buck ive killed has been with no scent at all. Just hunting around does in heat or the trails they use is all I use these days

plus the money saved I can spend on bolts, shells, and etc

I usually start using estrus scent sparingly about two weeks before the peak of the rut.

Sometimes using scent makes the bucks too aware. Therefore it would be better to use no scent other than cover scent.

I know lol, but no matter what most are gonan be tempted to spend 6-15bucks on doe pee and try anyway. If the bucks gonna come by, he's gonna come by no matter what. The best plus to any doe scent would be getting him to stop for that split second to shoot if he was walking

Just for kicks I put out a scent wick with hot scrape pee on it. Put it outside my blind;a doe enters the food plot 80 yards from me.She puts her nose high in the air and keeps her eyes on the blind. She walks 5 yards, nose high in the air, stands there for 10 min. decides she doesnt like the smell and blows with tail in the air and fawns running back into cover.TO EARLY FOR SCENTS. I usually dont start scents until the 1st week of Nov.

even during the rut doe dont like other doe that are in heat.. must be a woman thing

glad you did a test though.. it answers most questions that its deifnitly to early for scents. Funny, cause at walmart everyone is buying the stuff like crazy also  They can scare the deer to my land though 8)

If it's one thing I know for sure in hunting it's that I DONT KNOW
So I think I will try some Tink's while I'm up north later this week.
I have a little of everything with me as far as scents go.
I sent 3 scrape drippers up two weeks ago and my buddy put them out,2 on mock scrapes and 1 on an existing scrape.
All 3 are being hit. the mocks have active scrape in them and the other has trail's end.
My buddy is staying out of the area as much as possable to keep it fresh for me,what a guy.He has taken MANY nice bucks in his life and I never have so I get to shoot the big one's.Hell, being from Florida they all look big to me and a trophy is in the eye of the hunter,I'm not picky.
