First one of the Year..FINALLY

Post by korey99 »

I know, I know...the season is just beginning with the rut starting...but it's seems like FOREVER before that first deer of the season hits the ground.

After putting up a stand in a new location yesterday morning, I sat in it last night for the first time, and I wasn't disappointed with the results. This fellow snuck in behind me and passed along a trail not 5 yards from the new stand. All the time I was sitting up there I was thinking "Did I put this stand TOO close to the trail?", as I was only up 10-12 feet, and I thought any deer passing on the trail would easily look to the side I practically be looking eye to eye with me. Well he didn't look, and went out to the apple tree 15 yards in front of me, and I let the Slick Trick do it's job. He took three jumps...not sure what the hell had just happened, got wobbly kneed, and keeled over...all within sight...I really enjoy THOSE tracking jobs! I waited another 5 minutes to ensure there was no movement, climbed down and got to work.

No bush pic's, as I was alone last night and took full advantage of the 1 hour of daylight I had left to clean him and drag him to the creek to clean him out a bit.

Now that we have meat, time to chase the big boy. My buddy still has a buck tag, and I have my doe tag left....and lots of season to go! We'll keep you posted!

Partikle....for some reason I knew you'd pick up on that...I don't post too much, but I have been lucky the past two seasons....

To be fair, I will admit I had my chance already at one that was bigger than the two from prior seasons.....and missed CLEANLY from 12 YARDS! My bolt hit a twig, and deflected straight left, cleanly missing the animal (thank god!). Truth be told...the deer out-waited me...and I lost patience...rookie mistake, but I learned from it!

Thanks for keeping me on my toes bud! Let me know once you get old mossy horns too...it'll only be a matter of time for this cat...

  If I remember correctly, you walked up on one bedded in the snow 2 years ago after you came across his fresh tracks. Then last year you nailed one in the chest from in front, I always remember that shot.

The reason I remember these is I was thinking SOB he nailed 2 nice bucks 2 years in a row. Why can't I do that?
Do you still have pictures of those two, can you post them?

Nice trophy's there bud. Do you have the years reversed on those 2 pictures? Wasn't there snow on the ground when you nailed the first one 2 years ago? Did you ever get them scored?

Wish me luck this year. We have a huge wind storm in Eastern Ontario right now. If the wind slows down here tonight, I'll go out tomorrow morning before work and see if anything is moving.
