Curious ????

What is the average percentage of meat to hide and bone on a Deer?
Is there a fair # to go by?
For example if you were to butcher a Deer fairly clean and ended up with about 50 pounds of meat, how much do you think the Deer would have weighed?
Enjoy the Harvest!

Roughly 1/3 dressed weight / useable meat..depends on who's doing the job & how clean the meat. i always debone from the gambril. the backstraps are sliced and vac. packed & the rest is left in primal cuts(whole boneless round ) etc. & placed in large ziplocks until the end of season. this gives me time to decide how much is going to jerky, bologna, pepperoni & grind. definately agree with the premis not to save any unclean, shotup, bruised or silver.do it yourself if possible, you will surely take more care than someone who has many to wade through.
