Valentine's Day ... And I've Got Marital Counseling Tonight!

Post by Grizzly Adam »

Not my own, either!

Will have an initial meeting with a couple tonight.

Those are always a little tense!

In all these years it's the first time I've ever had a couple make an appointment for marital counseling on Valentine's Day! Guess there's a first time for everything. Strange!

Glad to help, though. At least we won't have to beat around the bush in deciding that there really is a problem. I don't think most couples go to a counselor on Valentine's night!

It gets even better: My wife has to go over to her mamas so I'll have the house free for the counseling, because my new study isn't done! How romantic. So much for plans!

Think of me! I'll do what I can to help. :D

Best of luck tonight Griz! Hopefully it won't be too brutal. Don't forget to make it up to your wife!

My husband says that "nothin' says lovin' like venison in the oven"... so here we celebrated with a venison roast for dinner. Try not to think about it and have a good evening anyways! LOL

Good news, good news!

The couple in question is on their way home, and I think they're going to be fine. They talked a lot and I listened a lot, which I think is the main personal counseling "skill" that always applies to every situation.

They were normal enough; a wife and mother with a lot of pressure and some reasonable grievances, a clueless hubby who didn't know there was a problem, and a solution just waiting for an opportunity to suggest itself.

After a little review of the why, what and wherefore of marriage, and some tweaking of redirection, we were off and running!

I helped them specify some disappointments, name some expectations, allow some concessions and make some compromises ... and with a little "conflict resolution" applied, they themselves stated what it would take to "fix" it!

I believe we really got somewhere, and that the situation is so hopeful that we only planned for a "checkup" a month from now.

Believe me, I am one happy man ... because you never know how bad it's gonna be or what will happen. So many wait until the situation is in shambles before they seek any help. Fortunately, this couple came while their problems were still relatively minor in proportion. No credit to me; I'm thankful to God it looks like they're gonna be all right.

A good night; I'm glad! :D

....
I tried to be romantic today-Valentines Day.

I said " I know it's been a long time since you lost your virginity, but do you still have the original box it came in"?

She smiled and said " I still love you"

ahhh that was nice

Well My wife and i had to clean snow and ice out of the driveway last night. It's only about 100 yards long. I got up and went to work she got stuck twice trying to leave the house . So when I got home we started with the shoves.
She did get roses and a card.

I went over to my girlfriends house yesterday morning and shovelled her walkway, drive and sidewalk as well as brushing the snow off her car. I went back last night with orchids, card and some nice red wine.

When I gave her the card she gave me mine.......We both got the each other the same card.

Grizz. Glad your appointment worked out but how did your Valentine's Day go?

Well, April got back from a meeting about 9:00 ... we had a NetFlix movie in the mail, and she brought home a bag apiece of Goobers and Raisinets ... so we had a night "in" at the movies.

Just the two of us. At home. Together.

It really doesn't get any better than that. :D

I had put the requisite card and candy on her dresser yesterday morning.

My heart goes out to you and your young couple. If they were scheduling for Valentine's Day they obviously were hurting enough to put off the commercialism we all get caught up in. Having been in need of a good counsellor's sevices in marriage, I truly believe God blesses some of us with these skills. Often, He seems not to consult our social calendars before referring others to us for aid. Thanks to you (and your wife) for being willing to lay aside your own time to help these people.

Sorry, I know this is off topic, but your post struck a cord.
