Was just watching animal planet they were using a Vixen to fire a bolt into Northern write whales to get biopsy samples for genetic samples and identification . The bolt had a rubber stopper to stop it after a couple inches of penetration and it had a circular tip with barbs on the inside to capture the sample. After the hit it would dislodge and float . A neat process .
