broadheads

Post by sinclair »

I am going on my first turkey hunt on Saturday. I am currently set up with the wasp boss broadheads that came in the right stuff pack. Will these be sufficiant or should I invest in new ones. If so which would be recommended.

Hi Sinclair and welcome to the forum.
I can not answer your question but I'm sure others here will get to it soon.
There are some bonified turkey slayers on this forum.I know of at least on fellow who used those heads to kill a turkey. here is the link

From what I can tell there are as many opinion's as there are broadheads.
Some look for pass through's while others prefer some sort of stoper on the shaft to keep the arrow in the bird.
I would imagine that a well placed shot with any broadhead would do the trick but I have no actual experiance to back that up.

Sinclair,

I would have no issues with using the Wasp. It is very accurate and will definetely cause a fatal wound. However, as Saxman stated the bolt will probably pass through and allow the bird to run/fly off and you could have retrieval issues. They make "grapplers" that will stop the bolt from passing through causing the bird to flop around and allow you to get to it.

Use grapplers by Zwickey to stop passthrus and the bird flying off. I use Slick Tricks on GTlls for turkeys.

And avoid chect-on shots if possible. The vitals of a turkey are located just forward of the leg, not in the conspicous breast.

I just got one last week (my first with crossbow) and I used the wasp Jakhammer. The bird was 18 yards when I shot and it went about 5 steps before falling. It was broadside and I hit the wingbutt. TC
