In light of the recent costs he's shouldered it might be worth it for him to pay you now. :D

Really guys, what's wrong with people now a days. This should have never happened in the first place. Like I said in my original post, this guy was a close friend of my dad's and if he were still alive, I can guarantee you that this wouldn't have happened. It's like values, principles, respect and just doing what's right has gone out the window. I thank God that my Dad instilled some values in me and those same values have been passed on to Tyler and Brianna.

I'm with Cossack.

My Dad has those same values, Ray and he has passed them down to me. He's 92 and over the years he's given me a lot of good advice. One of my favorites is

"Always leave the other guy owing you."

I try to follow it daily.

I offered to pay but he will not take my money. The guys that messed up his bush hog told him to keep the money that they had paid to fix the tractor. It cost him $300.00 to fix it so the way he figured it is that the other guys paid the lease for me and fixed the damages.

I put a gift certificate to Outback Steak House in his mailbox this morning. I know him well enough to know that he's not going to accept any money from me. He really feels bad about the whole situation and just wants to get back to business as usual.

WOW- Ray! What a great ending to an unfortunate situation! So glad it all came 'round in your favor. Good for you for taking the high road with the farmer!!!

(And thanks for the good laugh!)

Definitely a happy ending to a sad story . The question still begs to be asked what were they thinking stealing someones farm equipment without asking.

ray: I'm with bstout's second guess on this one, but I'm also thinking there might be a third possibility.

Way to go anyway, and I hope you do well this season. :)

There is so much money chasing the available hunting land today that I do not blame farmers for getting greedy. There are clubs here that charge $1500+ for a share of a lease.

Well, I have a signed, notarized 5 year lease agreement on the farm. I still would have absolutely loved to have been there when they realized that the wrecker driver that they tried to "cash out" on, was Mr. Crain's son. The tractor is fixed, my stands are back up and Tina and I had dinner with the Crains at Outback after church this evening. I will have to agree that these guys were just as stupid as stupid can get. I mean, did they think that Mr. Crain wouldn't notice that his tractor had been moved? Seriously though, I'm blessed to have the place back and everyone happy.
