got some blood on my arrow

Post by mdcrossbow »

and in my van LOL

Ever since Gary came out with Slick Tricks they are the only heads I've used and I can't tell you how happy I am with their performance. Hit on point intended and 99.99999 % passthroughs. You can't get any better then that !

It was friggin HOT !

The moon transit was set for 12:00 noon today so I figured that the deer would move around 4-4:30, sure enough like clock work as I was driving out I saw doe's feeding on the side of the road. I was in my squeaky stand by 4:30 at 5:30 I saw some deer moving and 1st a spike came out then a BIG MAMA and her BB. My stand squeaked a bit and she didn't lie that but I held my own and she went back to munching on acorns, finily she offered me a 28 yards broadside shot about 6:00 and I slammed her with the old Slick Trick , sorry new Slick trick LOL
She beat feet about 50 yards and crashed in the woods.
Just finished gutting her up and she is in the freezer.

1st one of the season and it FEELS GOOD !

The best thing about the whole hunt, she was the main squeeze of the big bucks and she was a smart one. SO now the little one's will have to learn on there own.

thanks all, she was almost eye level with me on the side of the bottom of a hill and I was lower in a creek bottom tree. The pass through was almost straight out the other side.

mdcrossbow . . .how do you play the moon transit? I hadn't had anyone explain that trick to me before.

Thanks

this transit is for Saturday the 29th here in Md.

this is the site I use;
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.php

MOON
Moonrise 7:48 p.m. on preceding day
Moon transit 3:04 a.m.
Moonset 10:32 a.m.
Moonrise 8:26 p.m.
Moonset 11:51 a.m. on following day

Moon transit is what you look at. 3:04 the deer will be bedding 1/2 hr befor or after the transit time. you need to be in your stand at least 3 hrs befor the transit.
So with a 3:04 transit 12 hrs later the next feed will end so you will have a 12 noon to 3 PM hunt, you will also get the beginning of the Minor hunt if you hunt till last light and in the morning you will have a good minor hunt. When deer are set to feed an hr after 1st light I like to get in early. if they are feeding between the hr's of darkness and 1st light I like to go in durring the day light so I can see the deer and not spook them.

There are 4 feeds in a 24 hr period

2 major; the moon transit and 12 hr following

2 minor: 3-3.5 hrs after each major feed.

Deer will feed for 2.5 to 3 hrs durring the major feed and about 2 hrs durring the minor feed.

Acquired knowledge from experience. I've been hunting the transit for 8 years now. After hunting it that long you begin to see patterns forming to the movement changes caused by weather , the placement of the transit in the evening, the rut. There is allot of factors that can cause the deer to move or not move.

I hope this helps.

Congrats! Now see if you can find her old main squeeze so you can reunite them, in the freezer, the pot, and your belly.

Pretty cool. I'll track the transit a while and see how well it works on these Georgia deer.

Thanks!

I hear you. I hate shooting deer when it's like this outside. It becomes a race to get it out of the woods, checked in, and then to the butcher. I freak out the whole time worrying that the meat will spoil. I would rather cut it up myself but I take it straight to the butcher because it's quicker and they have a freezer to cool it off.
