how old are these fawns?
My game camera I have in my biologic plot took this photo this week of these two fawns. I have been seeing alot of spotted fawns lately and I am confused as to when they were born. My question is how long does it take for fawns to lose their spots? I am trying to figure how old they are as they must have been born very late. Also does anyone know the gestation of a whitetail? when could these fawns have been conceived? thanks

yes but not as many. she still has some on her flanks. 4 months would put her birth in July. dont they have a 7 month gestation?rutman wrote:My guess is 4 months, does the other one have spots too?.

How old are Fawns?
I speak from my understanding for Ontario, Canada, whitetails. Gestation is about 200 days, thus a doe bred in November will
fawn in the following May. Fawns which are larger and healthier may mate when about 6 months old and most likely have only a single birth. Their full maturity is reached 2 years later. 3 and 4 year old does usually have 2 and 3 fawns. All of this can be affected by soil fertiltity and hence food quality.

And given that there is as many as 3 ruts that could put conception somewhere near the end of Decmeber early January.bbbwb wrote:I speak from my understanding for Ontario, Canada, whitetails. Gestation is about 200 days, thus a doe bred in November will

Thanks guys, I have been out of town hunting but the nearest I can figure is they are about 5 months old making a late January rut when they were conceived. Our rut here is usually around News Years so the doe must have been bred during the 2nd rut. There are plenty of bucks here to breed so she must have been a yearling doe. Well I now have names for the two spikes: chop..and sticks! I try to name all my buck deer coming to my feeder or field it helps me keep track of them thru the year
