Second half of season in pics.

Post by chris4570 »

Well the first half of the season was more prolific in terms of deer seen, so these pics will be lacking in deer. But I think the pics prove there is much beauty to be seen and enjoyed outdoors.

It will take a bit for all the pic to be posted.

Sat through plenty of extremes in weather this year. 27 C, blue bird days, rain, snow, high winds, swirly wind.

The Exocet covered in freezing rain.

Some black and whites.

Some colour for the dinner table. Bambi wrapped in bacon done on the rotisserie. It was as good as it looked.

One of the deer I saw after shotgun season.

The trail out from one of my stands. The deer seemed to like this trail, when I wasn't there.

Sometimes it is a challenge to capture what you see and make it work in a picture. I like these next two. Especially the second one.

As I mentioned the extremes in weather this season. This pond was bone dry until after the shotgun season. There is now enough water that waders would be needed to get through.

Ecoaster removing a broadhead from a stump after some target shooting with his vert bow.

A clashing of cloud and sun.

Seeing this made me laugh. I was thinking a "slip and fall" lawsuit might be in order. I'm sure the other deer were pointing their hooves at their fallen comrad.

The last morning of the season I was greeted with a beautiful sunrise.

Last one. With a heavy sigh I lowered my crossbow for the last time this year. I enjoyed this season. I hope you enjoyed seeing some of what I saw.

When I look at pictures like these and RJs it never ceases to amaze me. You guys have a lovely imagination as to how a possible picture will turn out. I on the other hand dream in black and white crayon stick men!
It's great to see such talent shared!

Thanks Boo!! I imagine RJ is like me, take a lot of pics and hope that you've made a couple work. Digital is great for that.

Great shots Chris ! .... My Pocket Olympus Stylus 500 gave up the ghost by the last day ... getting banged around , dropped etc. as I dredged it thru the bush all season took its toll and was taped together with electrical tape to hold a broken memory card door and a broken battery door closed to get the last shots of CH's deer ...

My Pentax K100D is malfunctioning as well and I'll be stopping by the camera shop to get it tuned up soon ... I took tons of pictures and there where many that didn't turn out ... I cant get a low light shot without switching to at least 1600 or 3200 ISO and the pictures turned out way too grainy ... Not happy with it's performance ... clairity was poor and depth / focus casused me to lose many cool images .... did manage to salvage some though ...

Your Cannon takes great shots ! .... I had one but it got pooched when my daughter had it in BC for whale watching pictures .. got splashed with salt water and the camera shop said it was not repairable ..

I picked up another at a boxing day sale , but it is my daughters primary camera now so I will see little of it ...

So for the rest of the season I will be carrying a Pocket Olympus Stylus 600 ( keeping the 500 for parts only ) , and I hope the camera shop can get my K110D sorted out ...

Keep the pictures coming .... they look great !

Stopped into the local camera store .... talked to the pro-staff !

Told them I can't get decent low light pictures ..... pictures I use to be able to nail with my oold 35mm Pentax PZ10 using 800 ASA film ... I use the same lens on the digital set up but cant get the pictures I want without switching to 1600 and 3200 ISO ? Then the pic's are too grainy

Simple fix for my problem they say ..... all I need to do is buy another lens with lowest F stop ! .... only about $ 1200 and up !

I said , " wonder why they sold me the set up I have if it wasn't compareable to my old 35mm set up " ! ?

Anyway .... I'll keep experimenting with diferent settings .... They said , when you take the picture , try this , then try that , then switch to this and switch to that , and adjust this then tripod mount and try that etc. etc. ..... I said " dude I'm lucky if the animal cooperates for 30 seconds before it bugs out " .... My old 35mm ... use to shoot 90 % in full auto .... 10 % in manual and it did the trick !

And I keep thinking I need to get a Digital SLR.

Sounds like you are having problems, but you and your camera did take great pics!!! I don't know enough about digital to offer any advice. Not sure why the same lens would not allow as much light through.

What is the f stop on your bigger lens?? A fast lens, like the dealer was mentioning, will make a big difference in light transmission. But the cost is up there. That's one of the reasons I have yet to commit to an SLR. My little point and shoot takes care of the macro, wide and telephoto lens. However an SLR does make superior photos.

Unless I start doing more weddings or get paid for my pics I will most likely stick with what I have.

Great pics!!!!!!!!!!
They bring a question to mind, though. :?
Does the ice covering have any effect on accuracy of the crossbow?

Great pics Chris. You always seem to have a few of me that I never know about until they show up here :D . I second the thumbs up on the B&W shots. They are cool.

Lowest is 5.6 .... the new lens tthey showed me was 2.8 .... too much $$$ right now .... I'll keep trying to tweak my settings for now ...
