Possums?

Post by MG »

Sunday night I was driving home from Peterborough and as I pulled into my driveway I spotted something I've never seen in the woods around here, a possum. Anyone else been seeing these guys around this area (southern ontario)?

I've seen them as far as Aliston. Ornery critters aren't they? Sort of reminds me of my mother-inlaw.

Possums

They are all over the area here. Niagara is crawling with them.

Yep ... we see them often is Southern Ontario

Here are some shots of one we saw in Feb 2007 when we were chasing Jack Rabbits ..

A possum that woke up early and was eating apples ... I got a couple of good close ups and one picture of Vern Adams getting some of his own shots ....

They're in the cities too. I saw a roadkill last month on my street right in Mississauga. Haven't seen any live ones yet around here though.

If anyone has horses possums are a bad thing, they carry a protozoa that gets into the horses spinal column .Its very expensive to treat and causes paralasis. Its called E.P.M.

Tons of them when my grandparents still lived on the farm, Waterloo area. We used to see them crossing the roads all the time at night.

My dog killed one in our backyard a year or so ago. UGH. I'm not fan of possums!

I had not seen one until about until about 18 years ago. I even called the MNR about seeing a couple at night . They told me they figured we recieved them in a load of freight coming in by truck . Before thta i had only seen them when travelling in the USA.
