using crossbow - comments on treestands ??

Post by bob-s »

Hi everyone --- a friend is just getting into crossbow hunting and wants to tag along this fall. Checking out tree stands and noticed Quill makes one with a pivoting seat. Hope someone has one or has looked at them - comments? Bowhunters Superstore sells for about $140.00

Thanks for any and all replies.

Bob.

Looks like not to many tree stand users here .. a lot of us are older and maybe not that keen to get up in a stand? Any crossbow hunters comments on any tree stand would be appreciated.

Although they are tougher to hang, the most imprtant thing after safety is for them to be big and comfortable.

that quill stand looks pretty comfy and I like the adjustable features on it. Better than my baby gorillas for sure.

I use a ladder type stand. Works nice, but make sure ALL tree limbs are away from the path of the bow limbs upon fireing the bow. If a bow limb hits a tree branch, the shot is deflected. Worst yet the bow scope will probley hit your face. Not a nice thought!

Alot depends if you are on private or public lands. In other words are you going to leave the stand , or take it in and out? If you can scout before season and leave it safely, I would go with a ladder stand. Easy to clinb, safe and comfortable. Not as easy to transport.
If you must take in and out, I would go with a climber. Fairly mobile, you can vary height as you need, safe once you get up and set, and many comfortable models. Needs a straight tree.
Last I would use a lock on type. Most mobile of the 3. Can use it to climb in trees with limbs. Good camo. Small signiture in the woods. My last choice due to I am getting old. When I was younger, my favorite type stand. Now it is harder to get in and out of, and in many you are sitting in a small platform surrounded by air. In the past few seasons I have been scared witless getting in and out of them. Not to mention wet with sweat from the effort, climbing a stand my 25 year old put up.
With all of them get a Hunters Safety System or some other aceptable harness.
Good luck and happy shopping.
Hunters do it in the woods.

I use an API Grand Slam with the gun rest. Works great for me.

I'll second the approval rating on the Summit. I have the Summit Viper, have used it for several Years and Really Like it.

I use a Lone Wolf hang on. This is a excellent tree stand, only 12#.
They have a 8# model but it has a smaller platform.
If you have to carry it in and out you will know what I mean.
It doesn't make any noise either. Very easy to set up. I peg my way up the tree , hang the stand then hoist up my crossbow with gear. I try not to go up and down.
This is a good unit to compare others to but you would not leave it out on public land. Although if you fold up the set and platform you will have a hard time finding it.
