String Makers Question

Post by shafferm »

I have been building my own 2 bundle flemish dacron strings for a few months now and I was looking to expand into making tri color strings. While looking for knot ideas I came across the eye line splice. This is a method of taking a 3 strand rope and making a non slip end loop by braiding it back into itself. I was wondering if anyone here had tried to make their own bow strings in this manner? Or is this how a 3 bundle flemish loop is produced?

Here is a link that shows a basic eye line splice.

That is exactly how I make my strings with a soft eye splice like in rope work. :)

The three bundle string is made just like the two bundle. Same procedure of twisting it up, just using three bundles instead of two.
BTW - A three bundle always come out a little shorter than a two bundle for me. I add about 1" to the length of the bundles before I start twisting it up.
