Nov 1st: Smokepolers

Post by crazyfarmer »

anyone take the time and shoot their smokepoles today? My favorite time of the year is soon approaching and you never know whats gonna walk by those 2 weeks :D

My Encores dead on at 100, 2inches high at 75, 1inch high at 50, and dead on at 20. Seems 75 yards is the peak of my shockwave :D

Sleepless nights are soon in store 8) :D

I'm still set from July. I'm planning on staying out of the woods till Saturday then spending a lot of time in them for the following two weeks. Hopefully the local corn fields are harvested this week otherwise it could be an interesting few weeks.

It has been over three weeks since I saw anything in the woods with antlers.

Haven't been out for a final check yet but I have mine set up for zero at 75 yards. Puts me near zero at 20 and about 1 1/2" at 50 yards. I'm shooting 90 grains of FF pushing a patched .530 round ball out of a .54 cal. TC Hawken.

Shoot both the T/C Omega and Knight MK-85 yesterday, both dead center bulleyes at 100 yards. Now the two 870 slug guns, that was another story, after $100 of sabot slugs i was worse off then before I started.

The muzzle loader season starts in my area next week . There will be 7 in our group this year . My son will be able to hunt by himself this year as well . I think I am more excited than he is . Hoping he will get a crack at a nice buck .

I nailed a small button buck last Wed with my Remington Genesis (275gr Shockwave/EasyGlide Sabot over 100gr FF 777). Now that early ML season is over, it's back to the range with my flintlock to get ready for PA's late flintlock season (.54 Lyman Great Plains rifle).

I will be out in area Ontario 92B for the Nov 17th ML hunt. Did some scouting on saturday & the small bush I have permission on has many monster buck tracks & many many scrapes. Hope he visits during legal shooting hours... ;)

harold, Although I now have a CVA Inline, My 1st ML was a 54 cal. TC lefthanded renagade that would only shoot .533 round balls accurately.

I sighted mine in earlier this fall and am good to go for Saturday. The first two weeks of November are definitely my two favorite weeks here in VA.

I have a Remington Model 700 ML. I am going to verify it is still good tomorrow after work. It will shoot a 1" group at 100 yds and has killed many deer. I still shoot real black powder. Goex FF. Anyone know of any stores in SW VA that stocks black powder anymore, I am down to half a pound.
