New to Group

Post by NativeHunter »

I am new to the group but have been lurking for awhile. 20+ year shotgun/buckshot deer hunter. 5 years with muzzleloader. First year bowhunter with an Excalibur Exomax. First day out three does hung out on my off-hand for almost 20 minutes. I thought they were all behind trees and shifted but spooked one. Two days later in the same treestand with 7 does and little ones about 10 yards behind or to my off-hand again. After about 15 minutes they drifted away just as a doe and two little ones came up, again on my off-hand. One little one was all around me - even walking between my tree and the ladder to my stand. After about 20 minutes the big doe walked into a good position about 30 yards away and I let go. I found her not 60 yards away in a soybean field.

Gotta say, I like the bow season and getting out early. Just seeing the number of deer vs. gun season is great! Hope to hang out here often and pick up a tip or two.

first of all. welcome and congrats! second, you should try shooting "offhand" with your cb and guns. I learned this 20 years ago and it has accounted for nearly 25% of my kills. fundamentally, its the same as normal shooting...just put the crosshairs on target and let er go!
