Time to vent ! = Why hunters get a bad name !

Since I bought the farm , I have caught tresspassers twice now and asked them to leave ...

I also had two guys stop by and ask for permission ... I explained to them that I am a hunter and plan to management hunt my property ... sharing hunts with friends and family ... that would be enough pressure for 100 acres !

One guy got pissed and gave me attitude before he left ..

Before I went to Pelee Island I decide to post the perimeter so my wife and daughter didn't have to worry about tresspassers while I was away ...

The West boarder of my property has an access trail for ATv's and Snowmobiles ( with my permission ) ...

Friday morning coming home from work I see a disturbing sight ! .... somebody dumped a fawn carcass in the center of the access trail in plain sight of a sign I posted ( approx 15 feet away ) ..

It was headless , skinned and had most of the meat cut away from the carcass ...



The carcass was not shocking to me , but I know if my wife and daughter had seen it , they would have flipped !

I also have a neighbor that although he is not an anti hunter , he doesn't hunt himself and posts his land as well ( he and his wife walk their property often ) .... They had a gut pile left in their lane !

Not sure who's doing this but they sure are not endearing themselves to the landowners ! .....

No wonder us hunters get a bad name .... It only takes a few bad apples to spoil the barrel !

That sucks RJ. Maybe next time the trespassers need to be prosecuted??!!!

A couple trail cams set up on the property, say on the atv trail access, might help capture evidence when you are not there.

R.J. That is wrong on so many levels! It's not respectful to the animal, the private property, and other hunters... I believe if these people were caught they should have their hunting and firearms privileges revoked indefinitely.

Sorry to hear that R.J. I dont know if this happened during the gun hunt or not, but I find that the most litter/damage to property occurs during the gun hunt around here. Seems like any azz with a shotgun thinks its ok to hunt wherever he likes since they can be in and out so easily. I like to think that bow hunters are more careful and respectful since they have to put so much time into preparations. These "hunters" are the reason why its so hard to find permission to bowhunt on private property nowadays. I hope they come back on an atv with a plate on it and you get a lic plate number. If you dont have a trail cam I will GLADLY lend you mine, just pm me. Good luck catching these scum. Neil.

R.J. I do not know what it is that makes normally sane individuals do stupid things when it comes to hunting.

We constantly have to be vigilante at our farm to prevent poaching and theft.

But what has happened in this circumstance is a message being sent to you that demands a very strong response. This is the equivalent of the horse head in the godfather movie.

Boy, could I tell you some stories.

If you're a landowner, you'd better get used to confronting abuse. Those sorts are out there, and they're not going away.

I think Mike is right. Playing hardball is the only way to get their attention.

If I found out whose carcass that was, I'd return it to 'em ... in person.

Just remember that you're not alone. Lots of us have been through such stuff and worse. We're on your side!

This post reminds me of the recent thread about "hunter or killer". People who do things like that are simply killers, as hunters respect the game laws, property rights, and have ethical standards.
All hunters will kill, but few killers will hunt.

Disturbing indeed.
I do not participate in any controlled hunt because I get so frustrated with the means some people use to hunt, including the trespassing. It is a week of watching people drive around with heads hanging out of the windows looking for deer to shoot at. I actually try to stay away during that time.
I would be happy to sit around your farm on the next controlled hunt to "evict" any trespassers.

You have an absolute f*****g A*****e on your hands RJ and like Mike says you have to make it know that you won't put up with s**t like that. Trespassers boil my blood I see them all the time on the properties around me. You need some ingenius ways to capture these D***'S.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Rick. Welcome to land ownership. I agreee with the trail cam idea and getting the law involved if it continues. That is harrasment. You own your land, and should not put up with it.

Sad story indeed.

The only way we were able to corral these type of folks and general trespassers was go get hardball with them. We also convinced a neighbor to do the same. Life has been much better since. Hope it gets better for you too.

I believe Spypoint makes an affordable camera that sends a signal to a receiver. I would put one or two of those things out and see what you see.

I feel your pain though chum. You are the one that worked hard to buy a dream property and some ice-hole gives you grief because you don't want him hunting it. Saddly, the shotgun hunt tends to bring this out more than the archery hunt. It is the 1% that give us all a bad name.

The only way you will be able to get the law involved is to either catch them on your property, find their vehicle and write a plate down or catch themon a camera.

I am on vacation until late december. For a small fee, I would sit on your property and guard tresspassers (especially those nuissance bucks that come onto property and rub trees, scrape the ground and are always starting fights. Those are the worst one )
