I hunt this area with a buddy but with bow. It is shotgun only in this area WMU 68B for 2 weeks. Shortly before 6am I had driven by all the black and whites, search vehicles, crime investigation vehicles and OPP 4 wheelers in the area where the man was found and to say I was curious as to what was going on would be an understatement. We hunted the morning till around 11 am and all the while our curiosity was getting the best of us. So we decided to take a drive over to see if we could find out what was going on but no dice. The officers were pretty tight lipped, it wasn't until I got home and checked the opp website and found that article that I found out what was going on. I called my buddy to tell him about the article and we talked and wondered what might of happened and different scenarios that could have taken place, it is still not known. It is very disturbing when something like this happens and even more so when it happens this close to where you live and hunt.

Couple years ago in my area, people were trustpassing on a farmers land and he went and confronted them for tearing down his fence to drag a dear out and they shot and killed him

That is really sad, unfortunately it is happening all too often.
A couple of weeks ago a 60 year old man was hunting with his 81 year old father in law north of Westlock. They had split up and at some point the father in law saw movement at the bush edge and ended up killing his son in law. He was not wearing orange as it is not law here yet but it should be.
Last week two hunters near Lac La Biche saw a fire in the area they were hunting.They went to investigate and found a man's body on fire. Police are not sure what happened or are not saying.
Really makes you wonder. I think I am going to stick to private land where permission is required, even though most truck hunters never bother with permission, but what can you do.I have some friends that have farms around here, and am going to approach them.I have read the horror stories on previous posts regarding permission and lack of it, it's too bad there are so many wackos coming into the bush.

sad:( I know accidents can happen, but some people get so trigger happy at movement they just fire away. I can see someone getting shot where you honestly had no idea someone was behind the area you shot at. Thats a accident.. but people just need to be more aware of their surroundings.. one reason I love treestands.. you shoot down and you always have a good view

It was on the local news last night the OPP are asking anyone that was in that area to come in,sounds like this guy was shot due to carelessnes but we do not have the details yet!I hope they find the person responsible.

The reason I say this...I have a cousin who shot someone during shotgun season in NY about 20 years ago. Basically the situation was as follows: he was hunting off of a fence line and a buck was about 70 yards away, walking along a hedgerow. My cousin shot (and missed) and unknown to him, on the other side of the hedgerow another hunter was walking. The other hunter had orange on, however, due to the thickness of the hedgerow, he could not be seen. Unfortunately, the slug (somehow) made it through the hedgerow and hit the hunter in the leg. The guy lived, the police investigated and cleared my cousin of any wrongdoing/carelessness. However, because of the incident, my cousin stop hunting for a many years and still is a little hesitate in the woods.

Like I said, sometimes accidents happen.

Unfortunate, to say the least. I think it was last year in Barrie, Ontario where a hunter shot and killed an elderly woman out for a walk in Simcoe regional forest. The 60 year old hunter was caught and charged.

This is one reason why I don't gun hunt anymore. After working for LeBaron back in the 80's in the gun shop, it really made me open my eyes as to the type of yahoo's that are out there in the bush with guns. I'm not labeling everyone, but all it takes is one bad apple to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It wasnt Barrie i believe it was somewhere south of Shelborne! btw.. you worked for Lebaron? My condolences!
