I'd say that there is loss no matter what implement is used, judging by the deer that hobble into the feeding station after gun seasons. The important thing is to hunt ethically and limit shot to ones capabilities. And practice, practice, practice. And get out among them more often so seeing a deer isn't a wold-shaking event. The unfortunate truth is that many hunters don't do either as a result shots are muffed by lack of experience and excitement.
