Then opened the cable TV bill and found it has gone up again.
Then sat down to relax and got a phone call from my buddy that runs the deer processing business, and he was in need of help quickly. (his cooler thermostat broke and the compressor wouldn't shut off - he had a new thermostat but had no idea of how to install it, so I ran down and put it on for him.) He offered to pay me, but I told him he owed me a favor.
By then it was after 4:00PM, should I even bother to go hunting?????
Might as well go sit in the blind for the last hour or so of daylight!
Haven't seen many deer there so far this year, but the cold weather has more deer coming to the food plot & feeder now. Got to the blind about 4:30 and lit the heater to keep some of the chill away. I opened the large port toward the feeder, but just the small port with the shoot-through mesh on the other side. About 5:00 a nice mature doe entered the far end of the plot, but she seemed very nervous. It took her several minutes to advance to within 25 yards, and just as she turned toward the feeder and took a couple steps a squirrel in the tree above it decided to sound off. She looked at the feeder, then turned toward the trail on the side of the blind where the small window with the mesh was open. I'd never shot through mesh, so I was undecided on even trying, but she stopped at just over 20 yards presenting me with a perfect broadside, so I flipped the safety off and squeezed the trigger. I couldn't see the hit, but it sounded good. I decided to give it several minutes before I even got out of the blind. I called my buddy (the landowner) on my cell phone and told him to bring a tracking light and the John Deere with the trailer attached, then called my wife and told her to keep dinner warm I might be a little late.
When I finished the calls I decided to have a look while there was still a little light. Found very good blood right away (double lung hit), so I went ahead and followed. She had run into the heavy cover along the creek and didn't go far. Soon I heard the tractor coming so I signaled with my new Fenix light I got today (a gift to myself
She went a long way considering the good double lung hit, but I was still pleased with the results of the Wac'Em Exit broadhead. Recovery distance was 80 yards, but about 60 yards of that was open field. Once she hit the heavy cover she went down quickly.
The specifics:
Phoenix with vari-zone scope and Boo string.
2215 aluminum shafts with Blazer vanes, tipped with 100 grain Wac'Em Exit (4 blade) braodhead.
Shot distance 20 yards.
Recovery distance 80 yards.
Had dinner before I got on here, and now it's time for birthday cake!!!!!!!!
