European Mount Update [Done]

Post by Golden Eagle »

Last Weekend I boiled off my friends Buck Head. It took 3 different water changes and 5 hours to get it done. He had it froze for 2 years deciding to mount it or not and decided not to so his Son pulled it out of the freezer in July and skinned it but then got sidetracked. I had a stinky job for sure but got er done.

Today I started the Bleaching process. I went to the beauty supply store and got 40 strength peroxide. I will let it set 24 hours and then redo.

I have the wood all cut out at work and 2 coats of poly on it[ Wild Cherry].
I will post the final project pictures when complete.

I finally got the Plaque done and the skull done. The skull didnt turn out as well as I expected I think because it sat in a shed for 5 months after unthawing and some rot occurred. I think like Dutch says it needs paint now but I will leave that up to my friend the owner. It grosses out at 149 7/8 and nets 140 5/8. The G-4 is broke off on the right Antler.

Looking good so far!

I have my 5pt done now. Just finished a couple days ago. It's been too cold (-20 with the windchill) to continue on my 8pt outside. I'm waiting to have both skulls done and then bleach together.

Thanks for the update GE

Nice mount.

Golden Eagle, why did your buddy not keep the bottom jaw? I think the mounts look good with the entire skull intact.

Looks good. Everyone has different taste, I dislike paint on them myself. I soak mine in the peroxide rather than brush it on and use paper towel to wick the peroxide up to the bottom of the antler. This gives me a nice white skull with no paint. This is the buck I killed with my muzzleloader this year.

Similarly, I wrap the scull tightly with a white cotton cloth (a piece of an old T-shirt will do) and set it in shallow dish of peroxide. I use a turkey baster to "baste" the entire skull 2-3 times a day for several days until its white.

Good job Golden Eagle!

Nice mount Whitetail. Is that one painted or bleached? If bleached it is an outstanding job! TC
