weights

Post by michiganman »

what can you use to add weight to a 100 grain broadhead.would like to add 25 grains to my broadheads then to push it to 400 grain total weight.

also since im new to using bolts should foc be closer to the 125 grain front.

It would probably be better to just use 125 grain BH.

If using a 100 broadhead, you could remove the front insert and add weight in the form of a 8/32 threaded rod cut to the desired weight of your choice.
I use small allen screws in 8/32. I have them in 20,25,30 and 35 grain. I glue them to the rear of the front insert for extra FOC. Then I reglue them.

Another way to get the weight in front is to insert a round lead pellet usually from shot or from screw plugs into the back of the insert then reglue the insert in. The lead pellet can be pushed in from clamp or slight tapping to be firmly held in place. Another one of many techniques.

125 grain

Post by michiganman »

i have a rocket sidewinder in 100 grain to try.Yes rocket does make a 125 grain, but the sidwinder has .036 blades that sweep back, and blow open on contact.they will have a new rocket steelhead 1.5" coming out,but is still 100 grain.also the fack how they fly out of the xbow, and real close to my field points.'
i would think that someone would make stell weighted washers, for just this purpose.you could just add it to your broabhead

firebolt

Post by michiganman »

i finally got a grain scale to use.i weighed the bolts today,267-268 each.would like to up the weight a little with out going to the 125 grain head.the undertaker in 100 grains works well.it has the .036 blades that are real sharp and have a bigger sweep back on the blades when going through bones.

i just figured out the field tips supplied with the right stuff package are 150 grains.

The set screw tip from Norm was a good one if'n ya wanna tweak weights a tad. You wouldn't have to pull inserts to install them. I've found steel ones in 8-32 to weigh about 25 gr per inch.

new brass inserts

Post by michiganman »

i just got the new brass inserts today.with the brass insert a little longer i had to use a small round file that i use to sharpen my chain saw blade.i used this inside the shaft to remove glue.it worked real well,i did just enough for snug fit.my fire bolts with a 100 grain head are now 453 grains each.

these brass inserts fit snug in my shafts and aligned real good

Anyone know what everything breaks down to individually by chance?

RAW 20" Firebolts GPI?
Firebolt front insert weight?
Firebolt rear insert weight?

Not to concerned with the vanes as I fletched them myself with 2" Blazers. I am guessing 414 grain total using a 150gr tip. Has anyone measured the individual parts before?

Ok cool, I still wonder what the shaft weighs naked though.

Is that weight of yours with the stock vanes? I removed my stock vanes. I believe the stock vanes are 9.6 grain each. Total of 28.8 grain. The blazers are 6 grain each, totaling 18. This removed 10.8 grains from the rear of the arrow I think.

If the stock Firebolt is 275 and then you add a 150 gr boltcutter, you should be around 425gr. If I removed 10.8 from the arrow I should end up with 414.2 which isn't too far off from my other arrows which are all around 400 grain. Anyway thanks, I guess this is close enough in weight to not worry about much.
