brass inserts

Post by ManX »

Dear friends,
I need an help:
- does someone use brass inserts?
-Does a 5/16 brass insert (for carbonium shafts) fit perfectly in a 2018 aluminiun shaft (like easton 2018 xx75)?
( I do not want a Laser II Brass Insert for 22/64'' but for a shaft of 20/64'' or 19/64'' ).

here some brass inserts 5/16:

Can you measure the ID of one? It would make it easier to help.

Thanks, Stosh

5/16" brass or steel will not fit the I D of a 2018 they fit perfect inside 2216. i use them as my weights for making my arrows heavier. i have never ck'ed the I D of 2018 but its its less than 5/16", i think the O D is 5/16" because its 20/64"

thanx dear friends,
I do not know US misure, so your helps are really usefull for me.
I have directly contact Mark Land-Technical Support Specialist
Bowfishing Promotions Prostaff Coordinator-
www.muzzy.com
He has answerd me that the ID of the insert 5/16 is standard AMO dimensions of .244 so it fits all the standard carbon arrow internal diameters.
Now we know that the external diameter is 5/16''=20/64'' and the internal 0,244''
isn't it?
If the inside diameter of a 2018 should be very near to .276", shell I use a 2016 or a 2015 or 2013... to put my 0,244'' brass insert :?
When I will be sure I will done my right online order in U.S shops 'cause here I can find nothing of this.
Regards

I sure stand to be corrected, however I can find no BRASS INSERTS for alum., shafts anywhere, just carbon....

Most folks I read about on here use brass threaded rod cut to size and screw into the back of the alum insert. I think Wabi use this trick ya might ask him..

there isn't any brass insert made that i know of specially for alum. arrows. however there are the carbon brass inserts that will fit some alum. arrows. 2214 as bstout said can use GTII 110gr a perfect fit. also the same brass insert will fit the 2219 with a small amout of slack, use hotmelt or gorilla glue. yes you can and i do use brass or steel 8/32 threaded rod of diff lengths to adjust weight.

Yup thats what I thought.. some use the threaded rod, should be the way to go as it leaves room for adjustment of weight. Cheaper then buying different weight BH's... :D

5/16 Muzzy (id 0,244'') brass insert fit not perfectly in a 2020 XX75 Legacy shafts (id near .272'' need gorilla glue or epo with granules of fiberglass)

ManX, I did a small search and found the following:
awshucks
Well, Bob, you've emboldened me, lol. I'm going to share some FOC info. My first Excal was my Emax back in 04, got the Right Stuff which was 360 gr arrows and W.A.S.P.s. did everything the ads said. Also saw on the video a little heavier might be better for bigger game than deer. Was still giving that some thought while I chewed up the first arrows. This was before I got my first computer and "met" all ya'll, lol. Got a dozen from Danny Miller, noticed the shorter vanes real quick, and a much lower poi. Talked to him about a trade for more stock arrows and he got me to try "his" w/ Slick Tricks, "the greatest b-head in the world, made right there w/ you in Ar." His weighed 431 gr due to brass inserts and shot REAL good. Also solved my heavier arrow delima as I got bear here on my property. Got the old computer next, read where I might have a touch too much FOC. So, I carved some 25 gr weights out of threaded stock, [ 1" = 25 gr.]dremeled a screwdriver slot into one end, and dropped my FOC about 5%. Groups didn't change size at 50 yds, just poi. Bear in mind, w/ no puter, I didn't know much about Danny Miller back then.
Next, I learned that the 10 pt Pro Elites are basically the same except for plastic nocks which drops the weight to about 420 gr.
Fast forward a year or two later, and I'm refletching Dannys arrows w/ 2" Blazers, point being even higher FOC. In my humble opinion, it's much ado about very little, as from hours and hours of tinkering, you either have enough or you have enough, lol. Sorry for the length.

Bob, how did you fasten the threaded rod to keep it from moving.

Thanks, I had already read this article, really interesting.
Now this is my best setting for targhet and hunting (consider that in my coutry is allowed and I have to go abroad  ):
-20'' Easton xx75 realtree 2213
-3,5'' Easton 2018 with insert and lead
-3 minoblazer vanes elical 3°
-flat easton nock 8gn
-easton sauder combo point o 125gn
-weight total 600-602gn(the mistakes is caused by the impossibility of weighing the epo)
-F.OC. 26%
using brass inserts (with your helps:wink: ) I should arrived near 30% with the same weight of 600gn.
with 35% of F.O.C. I will try micro blazer 1''
Image
11 UE cm. = 27,94 US inch from point
aproximatly 4arrows in 2'' at 55yards in in any weather, good result over 80y
Matthias is always the boss at 110y :(
