Shed hunting-like winning the lottery !

Post by K-Man »

Greetings Fellow hunters,

Your input is appreciated on this one.

In March 2008 I searched an area of swamp about 2 acres by 2 acres and found seven fresh sheds none i believe from the same deer-At this time I thought I hit a goldmine for future shed hunting. Then Feb and March 2009 checked the same area and no sheds found ?????

On that note I decided to switch it up and I scoured another area within 3 kms of this swamp and I have spent three weekends this year in a nearby swamp that has cedars hammered by bucks and literally every square inch of swamp filled with tracks , rubs and old scrapes and can't find a single shed. I'm a little baffled on this one -I should have run into a shed by now.

Any thoughts on what is happening here ? (please note-these areas have low hunting pressure as they are inside the City of London, Ontario Canada). Where could the bucks have been from Dec. to March 2009 ?

Thanks for the input so far everyone.

We have no porcupines so I can rule out that one. They may have been yarded up elsewhere but I don't know why they would as compared to previous years. And finally Smokepolehall I was hoping not to hear this one but it is a good probability someone could have done the "cleanup already"- but jeez if they did they got everyone of em and I have not seen any footprints in the area.

Anyways like with anything in hunting I will keep looking and not give up.

just because you find them there one year, doesnt mean they will be there the next year. I found 8 sheds on one beanfield 5 years ago. I have yet to find a shed in that field since.

its a number of factors that can effect that. Maybe some of those bucks didnt make it. Maybe they have moved to a different spot. They could have dropped them in a field while eating. I find 90% of mine in cut beanfields where the deer feed and run around. Road side ditches are good places also since when they jump from the road, the landing will knock them loose.

Ive got roughly 50 sheds ive found in the past 5 years and I have yet to find one within the same 1acre block of land
