Locator calls?

Post by Pydpiper »

I usually use a crow call, this year (today) I added an owl call to my overly full turkey vest.
Are they supposed to be loud? I mean, it has no where near the volume of a crow call, but sounds pretty good. I Just can't help but think it wont have the reach of the crow call for those far away gobblers.

I imitate Great Horned and Barred Owls with my natural voice ... works just fine. Killed my biggest turkey by getting him to sound off to an owl hoot.

I'd say if your call is anywhere near as loud as your voice, you're good to go! :D

That's why it's called a 'shock gobble.'

when you cup your hands for the sound chamber leave a small 1 inch hole for the sound to get out from, this adds alot of volume. and huff hard using your belly to move air thru the call.

I use silent dog whistle as a locator call. That way other hunters can not hear you. Works good.

Turkeys night roost across the road from our house. In the morning our little Pomeranium would bark and they would answer him. It's probably not legal to hunt turkeys with a Pom.
