What's the LONGEST RANGE at which you've shot a deer or other big-game animal?

Please give distance, season, animal, weapon, set-up, whether you recovered the animal, and a short story, if you like. Should be interesting!

450+ yards (measured by field cuts)
NC rifle season, Tyrrell County
Whitetail buck
.30-'06, Ruger 77
Ground, scouting
Recovered
I shot and killed one young four-point on our farm, before we lived here. My brother and I were driving the farm roads looking for deer (legal here), had stopped for a while to investigate a trespasser's tripod stand, and one walked out south of us, down the field. I took a rest over the truck hood (again, legal here) and touched off. Dumped him like a bad habit. My brother caught the kill on film.
