Equinox stock with lighter limbs?

Post by wdmullins »

I shot an equinox, phoenix and a vortex at Cabela's this weekend. I found that the equinox stock was the most comfortable fit. (Actually it felt a bit small, but figure that can be fixed with the addition of an extender) I am a long armed fella. I can cock the crossbow with no problem. The issue I'm running into is that I simply don't need that kind of power. I plan on hunting small game as well as white-tail. A vixen would really be all the crossbow I need.

So my question is..would it be possible to get an equinox stock/trigger assembly, and a lighter limb assembly, without having to buy 2 seperate crossbows? Or do I just need to use really heavy arrows so I don't send my arrow scooting along the ground for a quarter mile after I shoot through a rabbit?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

Don

If you like the feel of the Equinox then go with the Ibex then .They both share the same trigger unit and stock .

Hey, Don ...

The limbs on Excal hunting models are all the same. The draw weight is determined by the length of the rail.

that's what i thought , i was refering to, lets say an exomax and vixen i thought both used the same trigger

You're correct!

The "trigger" attaches to the "trigger assembly" externally with a single machine screw. You do not have to remove the trigger assembly in order to replace the trigger itself.

The thumbhole stock and the standard stock models both use the same "trigger assembly" on all models but not the same "trigger".
ok so the way i understand this is every current excal uses the exact same trigger assembly. with thumb holes using a shorter trigger than the standard stock but everything else is the same.from the vixen to the exomax and the ibex to the equinox everything is the same

Thanks for all the fast replies. I was unaware that the limb assemblies were all the same. That makes my idea pretty useless. :?

I am too new to this to really argue, but according to the excal descriptions the equinox and the ibex aren't the same. the equinox is 38.4 inches and the ibex is 36.4.

Length is the issue. Even the equinox felt a little short, but as I posted above I figured I could use the stock extenders to get the lenght closer to what I want. When I was shooting, I had to brace on the rail past the foregrip. Trying to use the foregrip was too cramped.

So any ideas? Would it be better if I just go with the shorter stock and get used to it, or go with the equinox and put up with arrow searching after I shoot small game?

the difference is rail length not stock length. the stocks are all the same

Mikej, OK I think I am understanding the issue now. What I am referring to as the stock is the entire unit less the limb assembly. So I guess what I am actually wanting is something with an extended fore grip on the rail. When I shot the equinox I was bracing nearly to the limb assembly. My lead finger was touching the bolt that holds the limbs on.

I was thinking that a longer stock would allow my to brace on the foregrip, as intended. But it would seem that I am mistaken in that line of thought. Is the foregrip location adjustable?

Thanks,

Don

no it can't be adjusted. did you try a traditional stock . they are 1" longer plus you could add an xtender to it also. i would be careful if you are holding the bow by the rail , that could be hard on thumbs and fingers

Mikej, if by traditional you mean one without a thumbhole, then yes there was a phoenix at the store and I shot one bolt with it. TBH, I didn't give it much of a chance (same with the vortex). I am terribly fussy about how a weapon feels when I'm using it. When the equinox felt best I spent most of my shooting time on it.
