Hair from the barber shop might help to supplement to whatever you end up using.

Old wives tale, here to tell you they don't care. In fact I've got one watching me from the clover patch as we 'speak.' :D

I use the Irish Spring soap as well. It's pretty good stuff and cheap. I'll take a few bars and cut them in half or quarters with an axe and place them around the perimeter of the garden then take a few bars and drill a hole in the center, thread some baling twine or something through there and hang them around the garden in different areas.

After this, they pretty much leave my garden alone.

Human urine. I pee in a jug and pour it around the outer edge of garden. Don't have any problems with deer anymore.

In the rut, if you pee in a buck's scrape all it does is severely piss him off! They tear up any and every tree in the area.

I've had urine spots turn into scrapes during deer season - seems to make them curious?

We fenced ours in with 5' wire fencing. In the past we've even used 4' plastic fence like you see used around construction sites. I also strung one strand of very light wire about 5" above the plastic fence and we never had a deer get in, but the plastic fence won't last as long as the wire fence.
Keep smiling!
