Pics of my 08 xbow buck(finally back)

Post by crazyfarmer »

After a long wait I finally picked him up today. Of coarse he was beside the 18pt 3 drop tine buck that was killed locally so he looked like bambi. This isnt by far my biggest buck, but he's different. Tight and tall. Typical Va mass(nothing like Ohio). I had a buck bomb out in the bottom about 10 yards behind my stand and the wind this day was blowing or should I say GAILING up to 45mph at times. I was told I was stupid for going out, but no sooner than 15mins in the stand deer were moving on the hillsides everywhere(out of the wind). I had 3-4 smaller bucks run by after a doe so I hit the doe in heat can call and this one come from directly downwind right under my stand and stopped. I debated the shot since looking down he dodnt look big at all. Then I saw the back tines and after some body size judging I knew he was a shooter. This deer weighed around 200 pounds and age wise more than likely 3.5-4.5 years old. As always I wonder what he would have been like next year, but after bow and ML season the dogs hit the same woods so its hard to pass. He only scores 130b&c so he's no monstor. But something different than all the wide stuff ive had mounted before. I just like how the MB's wrap around and are very close. I love the work this guy does when he mounts deer. He's done 4 deer for me and the heads just look real.

That's a really nice mount and a pretty deer. I would have a beautiful deer mount even if it wasn't a monster. Your guy does good work.Image

Nice buck, Crazy!

That's a classic "Deep South" rack ... he must have wandered a little north! :P

Don't worry about any deer you kill not comparing to deer elsewhere. I believe trophies are relative ... if the biggest buck your area can produce is a 12" cowhorn, then that's the trophy buck in your area. Biggest is biggest, wherever you are. Neither you or I (or many others) will ever have midwestern quality racks to hunt!

Great Mount CF!

Am I mistaken or had that buck been doing some fighting. It looks like he has some scars on his left side.

Grizz is right about trophies. It is just plain silly to compare bucks from different geographic areas.

Taking mature bucks is the challenge regardless of head gear.

That is one tall rack!

Nice deer, got some character. If I remember right, Fred Bear related that one of his most memerable trophies was a wise old doe.
