Range Finders

Post by DeepSouthHunter »

I want to get a range finder before the season starts and I'd like to stay around the $200 price range. For that price I have found a Nikon Pro Staff 550, a Leupold RX-600, and a Bushnell Sport 600 at Bass Pro. They also have a Brunton Echo for $100 on clearance but I go on the principle of you get what you pay for so I question it's performance and durability. I have not tried any of these out yet so I was wondering if any of you have experience with any of these mentioned?

I have the Nikon 440 and it's perfect for me. I suspect all will do the job.

The rangefinder is a must have for hunting with archery. Especially with my eyes. :(

Take as much guessing out of the equation as possible.

So far, I've been happy with the Bushnell Yardage pro 450. I only use it for archery and handgun tho.

I just received an e-mail newsletter from Leupold and they said they have a new rangefinder priced in the $200 range. I have Leupold scopes on all my guns and a Leupold RXII Rangefinder and consider them all quality optics. The Nikon is a fine rangefinder from everything I've heard.

I also have the Bushnell 450 yardage pro for quite a few years and it works fine for me. The stated range on this range finder is 450 yards for "reflective targets" what ever that is. Works fine for me for archery and the shotgun hunting that I do up here in the northeast but if I was a rifle hunter I don't think that it would have the reach to accurately range deer.

I have used the Bushnell 450 Yardage Pro. It works well and I am quite satisfied. I too only use it for archery and shotgun hunting. I think it can handle anything that I, the shooter is capable of.

Thanks for the replies everyone! It sounds like I can't go wrong no matter which one I choose. I'm leaning towards the Leupold but I definitely need to get to the store and try some out.

Leica changed their line of range finders a couple of years ago. The new ones are smaller and lighter than the old models. Seems as tho nobody wants one of the older styles now,and there are usually some bargains on ebay ( around 200.00 for as new w/ case and paperwork on one of the 800 yard models). They are a killer optic for a bargain price at that. Maybe worth a look
