Exocet speed seems low

Post by Swish »

Hi folks,

Just curious if these specs are about right (seems a little slow to me)

The Setup
Exocet 200, varizone scope, no STS
40 Strand Flemish Boo String, no whiskers (Brace height is one string width below top marker)
420gr bolt (Excal Firebolt with 150 gr field tip)

The Speed

~290 fps, according to speed dial on scope

I woulda figured i'd get at least 300 fps with this setup

Any thoughts?

The "speed dial" is just an approximation.

Shoot it through a chronograph. I'd guess you should be around 310.

I agree, shoot it through a crony. 310-315 sounds about right. Lowering the brace will yield additional speed.

Thats kinda what i was thinking myself. I'll have it chronied when i get the chance.

Suppose'n it aint wrong though, what are the factors (other than draw weight, and arrow weight) that effect arrow velocity? Can the limbs loose their rigidity over time? I bought my xbow secondhand and i'm beginning to wonder if it was mistreated in its earlier life.

Thanks for your input, guys

Swish,

As everyone else has said, pay no mind to the dial. My Varizone has always been set at 325 with the exact set-up you are using. Don't know what I'm shooting, but it's not 325 FPS.

mine on that same setup was shooting 306 with the boo string and a 420grain arrow

with the FFF string and a light 350grain arrow I was seeing 326

dont worry about the speed.. its the accuracy that matters :D
