First day of school... and about hunting.

Post by VixChix »

Well, today was the first day of school for our little guy. It was actually just a short 1/2 hr orientation and some time spent with the teacher. They do a "staggered start" here for the Jr. Kindergarten kids so his first real day will be next week.

The real reason for this post was to share this photo... The teacher asked Ben to draw a picture of himself, but instead he drew this. When asked what it was, he explained to the teacher that it was "an animal, the kind that we hunt." What a way to start off with the new teacher!  We quickly explained that he's been exposed to hunting and processing of animals, as well as 3D. He might talk about shooting things, but he won't "play guns" (although he might play "bows":D ) and that he understands never to point at people or pets. As much as it was a bit awkward, we were also a bit proud of our boy. :D

im so glad school is started... finally some peace around the house and no babysitters needed.

btw, my lil girl always draws me up a stand in a tree and the bullet going to the deer... thats fine, but then she has to draw blood coming out the deer:-P LMAO

I'm sure he'll undergo some modern day "treatment" for that.

I wonder what the teacher was really thinking? There may be a visit to your home by the local law enforcement today.

That's awesome!!! My 6-year old is the same way. If his new teacher doesn't know that Daddy hunts, he/she soon will because my son will be sure to tell him/her! Looks like your little guy and mine share the same artistic style & subject matter! As you can see, my little guy has used some artistic liberty, because my deer NEVER have that many points

Ninepointer I hope you frame that drawing! It's great!!! I especially love that buck. It looks like one of CFs!

It's wonderful to have this forum. A place where it's normal to have kids that draw animals being hunted. I really appreciate being able to come here and feel a little less "weird". :D

It doesnt seen that long ago are little one. went off to school. Now he is off to collage. And it gives me a little peace of mind that he spent a good bit of his child hood in the woods. And not running the streets. Your doing good keep it up.

Awesome!

Just like our kids... They love to draw pictures of "Daddy in the woods". My five-year old has become quite adept at drawing those "Zillion-point elk"!
