A dandy taken in KY

Post by Big58cal »

I lifted this from another forum, but thought you guys would like to see it. Here's the picture and below that is the story and rough measurements.

Image
A friend of mine shot this buck on Wed. He wasn’t for sure on the shot placement so he backed out. He returned about 7 hours later trailed it up and was able to get a follow up shot on it. While giving it some time to expire……..there was a bad thunder storm that moved in. IT POURED THE RAIN!!!!! The buck crossed a bushy old hay field and that is where we lost the blood and called for back up. We looked for about 3 more hours on Wed. and the deer didn’t turn up. We decide to try it again on Thursday and laying 30 yards from the last blood in the grew up field was this giant!!!! Here is his measurements…..

Left Side Right Side

Main Beam: 27” MAIN BEAM: 27”

G1: 4 2/8 G1: 3 4/8

G2: 12 4/8 G2: 13 4/8

G3 12 4/8 G3: 12 4/8

G4: 6 2/8 G4: 8 4/8

C1:5 C1:5

C2:5 C2:5

C3:4 6/8 C3:5

C4:4 6/8 C4:4 6/8

SPREAD: 18 4/8

Now, if my math adds up right, that's a gross P&Y score of 185 2/8 and a 181 net. I don't care how you look at it, that's a HOSS!!!

Forgot to add, it was a vertical bow, not a crossbow. Still a heck of a deer even if it was a gun kill. The only bad thing about it is that they weren't able to recover the meat because of the wait.

This hog was taken up in Greenup County........ up in the North East corner of the state, where KY, OH, & WV come together (up by Ashland).

I'm hoping for some cooler weather and it's also looks like rain for the next couple of days.

Mine will be fatter when I arrow it.

I suppose this one was gut shot twice? No blood just all the green stuff and no sign of a wound. Might have made a good run in the photo contest. They look bigger bloated . . .just a little fyi . . .

Yeah, of course there were guys on the other site doubting that it was a legitimate bow kill since they couldn't see a wound. There's always got to be someone to try to downplay it.

The way I look at it, there's a whole side of the deer that you can't see, so it could have been hit on the other side. With the rain that they said they had, it would have washed the deer off, leaving no traces of anything.

It if were me and I was going to lie about something like that, I think I could come up with a better story than the deer being gut shot and having to leave him lay.
