looking very nice. my piece of curly maple should be coming soon. what tools are you using for the main carving and rough sanding, have you ever used a pneumatic sander? they work great for really quick rough sanding and then you can do really fine sanding faster than any orbital or palm sander.

here are some of the pics of that piece i ordered: 2"x7"x 41-3/4"

I'm using a portable grinder with a 24 grit on it. It takes it off fast. Have to take care when doing it. I will use processively finer grit to get what I want. A dremel tool really works nice for finer wood removal like in the trigger hole. I never got into air tools but heard their great. Can not see why they would'nt work. You got a nice lookin piece there. GREAT grain.

I've built a couple of flintlocks in the past made of tiger stripe maple and that is one fine piece of maple... It would have made a fine gunstock, and now it'll make a fine crossbow stock... Just keep your tools sharp...That maple grain needs to be cut clean.....Good luck with the project I'm sure it'll come out great!!

This is great that you folks enjoy me sharing my project. I'm not trying to brag that I know this or that. I am learning as I going and sharing with my friends. This is such a good site. Do not change guys and gals. 8)
