center circle is ideal...

keep in mind the heart is lower, but unless you are a sniper, then the place to aim is the center circle.. that way you have more room for error :D

that target ring looks good enough for practice and the center of it seems excellant to me... if they all stay in there every time and most of the time they are tighter in .. you will be in great shape even under a little stress..

I think it's right on. Draw a line straight up from the back edge of the front leg and this should give you ideal left/right spot.

Looks like it is a good representation of the right spot to put a broadhead on a perfect broadside shot. If the deer is angling away you want to drop back a few inches. If the deer is angling toward you - let it walk.

Yes, it's an accurate representation.

I prefer double-lung shots when archery hunting.

I agree that the vital on that target is too far forward. I have a lot of 3D targets (Mackenzies and Deltas) and I have never seen one with the vital like that.

Most of the McKenzie's and Delta's I've seen are like that. The only ones I've seen that aren't are the one they have that is meant to be positioned for a quartering away shot the one that is meant to be shot from an elevated platform or treestand. The 12 rings on those are positioned accordingly.

I suspect that most deer that get away are shot too far back. Everyone thinks the shoulder is just above the "elbow" of the leg . . .not so, that's your target on a straight away shot. I've seen many a deer shot behind that "elbow" or bend in the front leg and it's too far back. You are better off to follow the leg straight up and shoot 1/3 of the way up the body.

Anyway, that where I typically shoot and they typically drop. There's been the exception.

I think your target is good to go.

What I've always told people, (and I'm sure everyone will agree) is take a line up the back of the front leg on the far side of the body, and just below the center of the body along that line is your aiming spot. Works for broadside and quartering away shots. Guaranteed lungs, and likely top of the heart.

The 10-ring in the 3D target in the first post is exactly that for a broadside shot. Not the right spot for a quartering-away, though.

Most of those targets have the center spot more in the center of the lungs, which is a great place to put a broadhead. Take out the lungs; dead deer.
Keep smiling!
