4 more sleeps

Post by schnarrfuss »

The deer opener will have to wait till Thanksgiving weekend for me as we leave October 1st for moose hunting. Heading 2 hours NW of Thunder Bay (18 hr drive) and the 4 of us have a bull tag and a cow tag. Hopefully one of us can drop one with our Excaliburs.
Anyone else heading up moose hunting or is anyone back all ready?? How is the grouse hunting looking like?? We are heading to area 15B.
So excited, can't wait.

we hunted 15b near Hollingshead lake. about half way to Armstrong then west to dog river road .i think if you go way back that road they stocked it with elk .not sure how they are doing .we have not been there for 3 years but there where lots of birds then if you get back in the real old hard wood cuts you could limit out every day . good luck

I hunt in WMA 41 and as luck has it our party of 4 was unsuccessful in the draw. ( 14 years in a row with out a tag ) I have been out 2 weekends now and only have seen 2 bulls which I have no tag for although there is lots of sign where I am hunting.

As far as grouse I have seen a few and actually taken a couple with the bow but just north of North Bay the leaves are still pretty thick. I am sure once they drop I will be feasting on bush chickens daily.

Good luck on your moose quest.

We hunt back on Dog River Road also. Have'nt been there in 2 years though. We camp about 60 km back and then drive in further to hunt. Have not heard of that lake, but will have to look it up on my maps.

Thanks all for the replies.
